This forum is being used for Market Research and GM is Listening to YOU!!!

Well, Mecca was awesome, and at the tour they showed us 3 new colors.

Miata Blue (a True primary Blue color) with a lot of metallic content. I am not sure where this color came from, except maybe the complaints about no "REAL" blues being available...... I do not know

Then they showed us Carbon FLash, a Dark Grey (almost Black) with HEAVY METALLIC CONTENT, and MERLOT (called "Wicked" for you Solstice Folk, probably named that because it almost looks like the Ruby Slippers from Wizard of Oz). Merlot is a Candy Apple Burgandy/RED color that is really nice!

I am telling you people that GM is watching this forum AND LISTENING TO YOU!!! Here is my a thread I did, which a lot of you voted in, of a bunch of new color ideas: What New Color Would You Choose??

I can tell you that the "Merlot" is VERY CLOSE to the look of #14 (which I called Metallic Candy Apple, but is more Burgandy) and the Carbon Flash is very close to the darker part of number 5 (Which I called Gun Metal)
Considering these were the 2 highest voted colors, coincidence?? I DO NOT THINK SO!!

I think the fresh younger group of marketing people that GM introduced us to are very internet savvy and are SMARTLY using this site to gauge what people really want, instead of telling us what we want.

Hats off to GM's Marketing group and whoever had the final say in the color choices!

Did the guys tell you that they were watching this forum, or are you just assuming that because of the colors that they chose ?

I'm not saying that you are wrong, but it seems like a huge assumption to me. They could just have easily done a marketing survey and gotten similar color choice results from that.

It is not a HUGE assumption, maybe a small one. I talked to one of the GM reps at the plant, and he said he knows they do look at the forum, but the assumption on them picking the colors based on the forum is mine. But those are 2 off beat colors, and to me, wayyyy to much of a match to be coincidence. This site is like free market research for them, FROM OWNERS, they would be foolish to ignore it.

I stood around that Merlot car and the reaction was about the same as the votes that people made toward that color. Many were talking about selling their cars and buying this color. One woman (sorry I cannot remember who you are) said she did not get the passion her husband had for the car until she saw this color, now she gets it.

I Have A Lot To Say About This One...

Can you imagine if they the G.M. Designers, incroporated the interior to off set the exterior color.....I mean for the Merlot incorp another color for a two-tone effect to off set the exterior. Like the Blk Onyx, and Red/Blk interior. I get sooo many compliments on it. At the tour this weekend people ask me who customized the interior, I responded G.M. It came that way from the factory. G.M. could maybe make it a option..

For example: In the Doge Viper Newsletter, It staes this....In 2009 The Viper will be available in 10 different colors, 5 different stripe colors, 3 different wheels, 4 optional two-tone interiors.....I am sure this is NOT what the after market vendors like, But this a buying customer a option to customized there car to there likes, right from the Factory!!
it took years to come to this point for the Viper. In 1992 Dodge made 200 red/grayish Vipers All Red!!....Then they started adding colors and stripes. ...but alas like anything after market item excelled!....
I personally love my Sky , and I may be entertaining the thought of purchasing a new 2009...HOPEFULLY I CAN DEAL WITH A DEALER THAT WON'T MESS WITH MY INTELLIGENCE AND TRY TO MARK UP THE PRICE OVER LIST...

This is very important for G.M. to know and to pass the intelligence of the Sky/Soltsice to the DEALERS AND SALES...The Car Dealers need to understand that people that buy a car Like the Sky/Solstice, Viper Vette etc. Are car Enthusiast..And most of us know what we want, what it will cost, and more. Give us a great car, with an honest price, and "THEY WILL BUY"... It starts Great from the Factory, it should finish Excellent from the Dealer..!!

Unfortunately, Ernest thats true for some Dealers!, the others that feel at least a smuget of what the "Car Enthusiats want will be the profitable ones and have return business. My next avenue is whom shall I purchase my new Sky from? whom will give me the decency of a NON-aggressive purchase?? I would entertain the thought of trading my 2007 in? BUT I don't want to weed through the "Good/Bad Dealers..I actually kinda scared to start talking about the 2009 to my dealership, will I get straight answers?, And if they don't know the answers thats ok, can they find out and contact me...((damn I should get a job at a Dealership and sell Skys, if nothing else because I know and love the car))

GM Listening and watching this Forum?

Well then:

Lower the price on the upcoming GM ECU tune !

If you can reduce the price enough, EVERY Redline owner out there would be lining up at the service bays for the re-flash ! Would it be in GM's best interest if every Redline owner out there would be calling the Dealers making the appointment ?

Hey, I know the GM guys look at the forum. There was more than one of the folks at the plant that knew exactly who I was - due to my posts on the forums about my wreck on the Tail of the Dragon.

They also mentioned in their speeches to us that they read the forums and love our enthusiasm about our cars.

While what we post is probably not the main driver for any particular marketing decision, I am sure that it is given some weight as a valuable, convenient and free resource for GM.

Exactly, It sure is a funny coincidence that the 2 top voted colors on that thread are now live colors, don't you think?

That was one of the answers that got answered at the plant tour. The wind sheild surround and the whole firewall and frame assembly get painted as one piece silver, then the body panels get painted separate and assembled. With the process the way it is now it would be impossible to do without a double process that included masking, etc. It is hard to explain without seeing how the car gets assembled. But there is actually a good reason for it!

I believe they may have gotten the Merlot and the Bright Blue color from this thread nearly 2 years ago.

What should be the next Solstice color? - Pontiac Solstice Forum

I had asked for the "Dark Red" to photochopped and added to the poll.

Here is the first post with all the colors: What should be the next Solstice color? - Pontiac Solstice Forum

Oh ... and I too agree/know that GM/Pontiac/Saturn *listens* to what is being said on both forums.

Cool ... that further illustrates my point that they are listening to what people on these forums want, now I get the Blue! I am sure the three new colors came from a combo of the two threads ..... very awesome thanks for posting that for us to see ... I Never saw that thread since I am rarely on the Solstice Forum. It just makes too much sense for them to use all this free Market research from their biggest fans! The Red was the favorite over here on SKY SIDE, AS YOU KNOW, AND GUNMETAL WAS TIED FOR SECOND, which is very close to the Carbon FLash Color!

Yes!

One of the product managers did a slide show of a Coupe cruise in West Virginia. He commented that an eagle-eyed forum member (solstice side?) had posted that they saw 11 coupes and a vette driving the roads of west virginia...

He said they all read the posts right after the cruise.

And then he showed us the pics to prove it!

also.. they mentioned SkyRoadster.com by name!

I missed that, they would have to change the process. being that the whole front assembly gets sprayed the silver together. They will probably charge for it, and make it a double process or just spray the whole front clip the same color as the car...that is the way to go!
