Fouled Spark Plugs

Well, you can add me to the list of fouled spark plugs that needed to be replaced. I have had at one time or another my engine light come on about three maybe four times since I got the car for a misfire but the car had always started and run fine afterwards.

This time about Wednesday I had another misfire and the light came on. I was just going to disconnect the battery but then on Thursday morning my wife started and moved my car so she could get out of the driveway so she didn't bring it up to operating temperature before shutting it off. I came out 20 minutes later and the car wouldn't start. I knew immediately what it probably was and had the car towed to the dealership.

The tech showed me the plugs and they looked like they had been in there for 30 or 40,000 instead of just over 11k.

Anyway, not much hassle, they replaced the plugs with the new ones per the bulletin and I was on my way again.

Just wanted to let anyone know in case something similar happens to them.

IF I owned an R/L I would automatically request the hotter plugs..IF they refuse, pay for them, but you should replace them..I would..IF they over charge, or won't cover under warranty, buy the new ones and install them yourself (if you have the knowledge and the tool(s)..)

Mine were replaced too ... months ago.
Can we count this as an 'Mod' power upgrade!
They may not be the 'Pulseplugs' costing hundreds ... but they do improve the performance in this vehicle.

The Red Line original spark plugs that came with the car were not burning hot enough ... and were becoming fouled and performance was down or out in some cases. So GM Saturn dealers replace those plugs with new hotter burning plugs. This is a different plug than the base Sky uses .. it enhances burn which increases performance.

Then there is the "PulsePlugs" which cost acouple of hundred dollars. They claim to provide more horse power because of there rapid firing but you may want to do a search (both on this site & Solstice and Goggle) and read the back and forth opinions.

Besure to replace your old original RL spark plugs!

Does anyone know if the "old" plugs are still being put in the 08s or have the mfg gone to the hotter plugs on newer RLs? I have a 2008 RL and was curious as to which one are in mine.

I was just wondering the same thing.

Also - can anyone volunteer what plugs they have used for replacement - besides those expensive "pulse plugs"?
