When GM first brought the two roadsters to market, they also brought to market several products that they felt would make the cars more user friendly.
One of these items was the removable windscreen. The air flow over the windshield results in reverse flow that travels back to front over the occupants in the car. This can be very disruptive for occupants with long hair, expensive jewelry etc. So the factory knew that they needed to address this issue.
Since they were designed by factory engineers, they are very robust. They will probably last the life of the car. They are perhaps over designed and more robust than they need to be.
The design requires that holes be drilled in the tulip panel – the silver band behind the seats. These holes are rather large and they are permanent. When the windscreen is not deployed, the holes are very visible.
The screen itself is basically a large oval hoop with a mesh material in the center. The oval hoop is very visible and some find it very “old school” looking. Its very obvious when its installed.
In order to put the top up, screen needs to be removed. This means if you are traveling and hit inclement weather, you need to stop, pull the screen out of the mounting holes, install the plugs that cover the holes, deploy the top, open both doors or lower the windows, put the top up, get into the car and latch the top, then find a place in the trunk to store the screen. It is a cumbersome and somewhat time consuming operation to install and deinstall the screen as it has to come off the car to put the top up.
So:
1)The fly swatter requires a professional to install it, holes to be drilled, mounting structure to be installed.
2)The windrestrictor family of Lexan wind screens are easily owner installed in 10 minutes for non-illuminated and 60 minutes for illuminated
3)The fly swatter must be de-installed to put the top up – and stored
4)The WR family of screens can generally be left installed under all conditions
5)The flyswatter is non illuminated
6)The WR family can be made with custom graphics in multiple colors with optional illumination. Very striking.
Some people have the flyswatter and love them. Other have them and have decided to go with the WR version for a variety of reasons.

Also note that KPWR sells two versions, V1, that sits between the rear deck lid and the tulip and the V2, which Rob has, that mounts between the tupil and the seats using industrial grade velcro. The V2 can be wired for LED highlights:

You forgot the part about the mesh effectiveness against alien mind reading machines. The mesh blocks the signals, alleviating the need to wear aluminum foil hats, which tend to fly off when the top is down. And the oval loop can be used as an antenna...for communicating with aliens should you desire to do so.

But of course . . . I am remiss
Thanks Bogie.

My flyswatter windscreen came installed as part of the "weekender" package. It is more of a European look, in my opinion. Of course, I also like the look of the Kapparack, something others hate.
Contrary to RtheE's post, the flyswatter DOES NOT have to be removed in order to raise the top. It does darken the view through the rear window a bit, but can be left in place all the time.

I personally don't think the WindRestrictor is any better at stopping the airflow into the car, but it sure as hell looks a lot cooler. I have one that lights up and I love it.
