good news bad news

Well everybody,

I finally got a few pictures taken of my baby. I took them the other night on my way to my new baby. So glad I got a few taken because today I was taking a friend up to St Pete and got a retread thrown at the front of her I am going to have to take her into the shop because the ignorant trucker that lost their retread caused my paint to actually scratch

So, here's the before picture good-news-bad-news-dsc04812.jpg

Thats a bitch. Three weeks ago my son was comming home from Barksdale AFB in his Saturn Ion Red Line. Bam, the same thing happened but he had a witness who stopped. He was fortunate that it happened in Jackson Miss. He had it towed there for temp repairs.( flat tire, whole in radiator etc) But he was stuck there for 5 days ( part weekend) so they could get parts. Once he got home we took it in to our local dealer for the rest of the damage..all total $6300.00...insurance deductable $100.00!

I'd say I got off very well after reading that. I took the brunt of it right in front. There are scratches there that will have to go into a body shop to be fixed. Rub marks on the hood, more by the door handle and more scratches (that will need to be fixed) right by the gas filler cap. All in all, I know it could have been much worse, but I'm still sick over it. I had JUST passed 1000 miles on it and haven't even made the first payment.

Well I have had two encounters with a truck treads (Road Gators)
One was just scary, flew up and hit the top of the windshield and bent the antenna.. the other busted out my right fog light... Consider yourself lucky.. a new Fog light assembly is 280 bucks.

sorry to hear about your car but wasn't it the ignorant trucker who delivered your sky, or the gas you put in it and everything else you use or consume every single day of your life. I also believe that they "the ignorant truckers" are the ones who pay all of the taxes so you can have a nice highway to drive on. I pay taxes to every state in the USA so that my trucks can drive in thier states and calculate the mileage driven in each one and pay taxes on the fuel used in each state. Most companies try to keep thier trucks in good working condition as breakdowns cost us money. Like I said sorry about your car maybe all the truckers should just stay home.....

There are a lot of truths on both sides of the who pays "the bill" discussion. But, the real issue should be how do we fix the lost retread problem. It seems to me the technology is lacking and that perhaps the problem is with the retread companies and not the truckers themselves.

All We ask Is clean up the messes they leave, and to take responsibility.
don't you agree that those are a danger to every car on the road?
Don't you believe that LIVES are in danger because of them... not only are the drivers of cars in danger, but everyione in the car, along with the State Troopers or Road workers that have to pick them up off the road.

Gee man, Just because you pay more taxes does not mean you can go and put everyone on the road in danger.

Don't you even care about what happens AFTER you have gone and left that tire tread on the road?

In the incident where I said was Scary, I was driving My Sky on the interstate with the top down, the car in the other lane hit the tire tread, It flew up and clipped the top of the windshield frame on the passenger's side. My wife was sitting there, It the tread had been just a little higher it would have missed the winshield frame and hit my wife in the head. probably killing her.. do you ever think about something like that happening?

Most of them according to a trucker I had this discussion with were not retreads, but new tires... but in either case I think the problem mostly is they run them faster than they are designed for with a heavy load, they overheat and come apart. not that any truck driver ever goes faster than the speed limit.. no that NEVER happens.

(I removed my previous post, I was very upset when I wrote it and reconsidered what I wrote.
My feeling are conveyed in the replacement post.)

You are correct Sky Man, and that is exactly why I said "ignorant trucker" to begin with. It is speeding and a too heavy load that causes it. Sorry if I offended anybody, but I too say to clean up you tires when you go spitting them all over the roads.

CONFESSIONS OF AN INVETERATE ALLIGATOR HUNTER

By

Harvey Brodsky
Managing Director
Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau

We recently conducted three tire maintenance/retread/tire repair workshops for the state of Oklahoma over the course of three consecutive days. The workshops began at 8:30 AM and were over in the early afternoon.

On day two, while returning to my hotel I noticed a large road alligator on the side of the highway. Since there was very little traffic I was able to stop to take pictures for our tire debris photo library. It was a beautiful day and after I took the pictures I wanted I walked over to closely inspect the alligator.

The minute I picked him up I knew he was coming home with me since he had NEVER seen the inside of a retread plant. That’s right, folks, this guy (now named Archie) was from a tire that had NEVER been retreaded!

I wasn’t surprised since I know that much of the tire debris on our highways comes from new tires that have never been retreaded, but I know that most people believe that all the tire debris on our highways comes from retreads. So I decided to conduct an experiment. The next day I brought Archie with me to the workshop and set him on the front table. I then asked the group to tell me what they were looking at. Every single person in the room said it was a retread!

Imagine their surprise when I showed them the evidence that proved the tire had never been retreaded. Then I went on to explain that tire debris on our highways is caused by improper tire maintenance, with underinflation being the main culprit, followed closely by overinflation, mismatching of tires on dual wheel positions, misaligned vehicles, improperly made tire repairs and tires being run with less than the legal limit of tread remaining.

Our mission at the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau is to continue to educate truckers and other motorists about the EXTREME importance of properly maintaining tires. We have a number of reasons for doing this.

• Truck tires that are properly maintained will be more retreadable and since all major brand truck tires are designed for multiple lives, this will save the trucking industry millions of dollars annually.

• Retreaded tires are very environmentally friendly and if a tire is able to be retreaded it will continue to help all of us by reducing the need for using (increasingly scarce) oil, since tires contain a large amount of petroleum based synthetic rubber.

• Our wish to make road alligators an ENDANGERED SPECIES – a pretty noble goal, if we must say so ourselves.

• Last, but not least, properly maintained tires are far less likely to cause accidents and will result in lives saved!
Truckers and others who would like more information about retreading and the true causes of tire debris (rubber on the road; road alligators) can contact us at: info@retread.org, or by toll free telephone from anywhere in North America 888-473-8732. We will send a complete packet of information including a CD & DVD. Our materials are entirely non-commercial and there is no cost.
Now the information is there Will they use it or ignor it? that is up to them but they have to take the blame for not maintaing their tires properly.
