HELP! Roof issues with my new SKY....

OK. I LOVE this car. BUT it seems that half the time I drop the top and then put it back up when finished, one of the windows has wind noise and is not connecting right. When you open or and shut the doors the fabric gets under the glass. What in the world can I do to make sure it is always even when I close the roof?

repaired yesterday

Had the same problem with the fabric getting caught behind the windows when closing the doors with the roof up. We took Chili in just yesterday to our dealer and the tech spent about 1 hr readjusting the windows and the problem was solved . Bill

There are several post on the forum that cover this.

Here is one:
New Owners!!! Top Alignment / Window Gaskets on the Outside of the Windows

Also just try searching for roof alignment.

Before you take it in, make sure the top is seating properly into the grooves just behine each door. I don't have a pick handy, but if you look just behind each door with top down, you will see a rubber thingy with a hole/groove in it. When you put the top up, make sure it seats into the groove on both sides of the car.

If you still have the problem with everything seated properly, then the windows will need adjustment as brat noted.

Also, always raise and lower the top with the windows down or doors open. The manual says you need 'em lowered to raise it, but doesn't require it when lowering. Do it anyway.

I have had no wind noise at all (except with windows open). So I will show you a rag top with no wind noise in Torrance, CA. There are a few of us I believe.

I think I agree with MM on this one also. I'm not sure about the newer
VINs, but with the lower vins like eldeeko's, MMs and mine, I would say that if you can not here the wind noise, you might want to check the batteries in your hearing aid.

Hmm, v-e-r-y i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g...
I do not have any wind noise when I run my '08 RL top up. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is.
And I can ensure you that my hearing is better than most - which aggravates the heck out of the kids.

This is not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing some of us have quieter tops than others (and my hearing is nearly perfect). I'd almost bet there is no more than 10db difference between (my) soft-top and my sedan. Now at 70-80mph with traffic you are going to get lots of noise from the road and wind. I too agree with Skip - If I can hear gas pass the top is fine.

Glad to see all the members with the low Vin#s...but if u notice the new rag tops they r putting on the cars...much better quality than ours...better lining also...so if too much wind coming through...it has to be the alignment...and remember these techs have no convertible experience...what u get is EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING at the shop.

Sorry Mike, you are wrong about this one.

The owner's manual states that you should lower the windows before raising the top.

The contact between the windows and the top is a tight sliding fit. Because the top will not be perfectly in position, raising it with the widows up (and the doors closed) can cause pinching of the weatherstrip. This can either damage it or make it more difficult to properly seat the top.

Lowering the top with the windows up creates no such issues.

The one severe flaw in the Sky is the top. We're about to have our 2nd replacment top installed. The frame tears the insulation because they were too cheap to place a support...would have cost them another 50 cents per vehicle made to have made it right.

What you should or should not have to do is not the same as what needs to be done.

But you are correct on the "need" to lower the windows to raise the top in order to preserve the integrity of the seal. In fact, I would highly recommend lowering the windows to lower the top as well. The top weathersrtip grips the window. If the windows are fully up when the top is lowered, I've found I have to apply extra force to yank the rubber seals off the glass. Although the weather strips might be designed to tolerate the torsion, I can't help but think that over time it will prematurely wear the strip. When the simple solution is to lower the windows...why not do it?

I agree with the "lower windows" group. I do it for both, putting top UP or Down..Especially when putting it back up. Page 102 doesn't say to lower the windows to put top down. HOWEVER, page 103 certainly says 2. "Make sure the ignition is off, and lower your windows".

It's not the hearing of breaking wind as much as "the smell afterwards" to offend the other senses...
