Dejon has a plate holder that attaches lower down into the grille if you don't want to drill holes in the body. I thought the mid-grille level stock mounting really detracted from the appearance of the car.

Use duct tape, it'll match your stripe Seriously, if you really want to drill into your bumper (oh, I can't believe I just wrote that), I think I still have mine. You pick up the shipping and it's yours. Just PM me. If you want to go the hide-away route, Summit has them for less than PFYC does.

The drawing shows it bolting into the front of the bumper cover, but I remember lots of discussion her one the forum back in 2006-7 about it bolting to the bottom of the bumper cover bar.

It does bolt under the bottom of the bumper cover and, as originally installed, also attaches with double sided tape - a PITA to remove.

One of my first mods was to get rid of the front plate. It absolutely ruins the look of the front. Here in CT it is required by law, too, but - knock on wood - no problems from the law - yet.

I keep the front plate nestled on the side of the passenger seat with the "it got pulled off in the car wash" excuse at the ready.

I don't disagree with you, but I keep mine on about 1/2 the time. It's just not worth it to get hassled by the local yokels about the plate. Around here it's a fix-it ticket, but that means you end up driving 8 miles to the cop shop to get it inspected after you put it back on.

Regardless, there are a lot of people who prefer to be law-abiding citizens and keep the plate on their cars where required by law. Therefore they need to know where to get the bracket when they are driving a car that was originally shipped to a non-front-license plate state, and the car is now in a front license plate state. (GM didn't include the front plate bracket when shipping cars to non-front-plate states.)

Peace!

how is that stuck on? did you bolt it on or double sided tape? And anyone that used double sided tape are you not afraid of paint damage?

I may endup doing this and replacing it like 50 times whenever I hit a speed bump.

I few folks have the hide-away and they have mounted it within the grill area on the underside of the bumper, not under the chin as the the one in the corvette shows. With ours if it were mounted under the chin, the first bump would rip that baby off.

A mounting alternative might be to use "L" brackets mounted to the underside of the bumper (top of the grill area) using either normal mounting hardware (i.e., screws/nuts or rivets) or some very strong double sided tape. At least you wouldn’t have holes drilled into the front of the bumper area of the fascia.

The OEM plate holder bolts (to the bottom of bumper above the IC grill) and tapes on (front of bumper) like 27rings said. Mine came with the stupid thing. I took it off and plugged the bolt holes with silicone, can't see them anyway.

Either run without and consider the ticket a Cost Of Doing Business. Or figure out a hideaway that works. A plate on the front of a Sky is just about as ugly as it gets. We have two Skys and both of us have been pulled over for other issues (Mostly me, but I have yet to actually get a ticket. ), and no officer mentioned the missing front plate. Obviously that is a low priority for the police around here; probably because all the yuppies would blow a gasket if they had to mess up the lines of their beamers.

Congratulations on getting it bought, beautiful car.

We added one of the retractable plate holders to the bottom of our valance.
We can retract it for car shows and also keep the local LEO's happy!

Congrats on acquiring one of the Rarest Kappa colors! Just try and keep that PermaGrin off your face while driving that beauty.

Enjoy the rides!

I'm using the stock plate holder - it's got a notch for proper positioning in the center. I didn't bother with the double-sided tape and it's stayed put just fine. It screws onto the underside of the bumper so the holes aren't visible. And it's easily removed whenever you're someplace where you won't get grief for not having a front plate.

Sky pilot already shipped me his. Now I just have to decide weather or not to drill into the bumper I've heard that here in texas it's illegal to not have the front plate but that there is no punishment for not having it on. Which is really odd but what I've heard...

For cryin' out loud, do NOT drill through the bumper of The Beautiful Car. Get a friction mount like the one that was on mine when she was in NJ. Thankfully, no front plate needed in PA!

No scars on the front fascia from the earlier installation.
