My New Fabricated WIndscreen

Hi Guys,
Since I had the day off today (no errands to speak of) I made a windscreen for my car similar to the one I had one my Z3. There is a very noticeable difference with this installed. Tomorrow I am going to put a piece of cardboard over it and test drive again to see if a solid piece makes that much of a defense over mesh.

Opinions, yes-no???

Having had the stock windscreen and then the WS2, I don't think you'll feel much of a difference with airflow. However, the mesh tends to make it look like you have your "brights switch" enabled on the rear view mirror. I'm biased, but I'd rather see some customized art instead of mesh when I look back there.

If I do like it and decide to keep it, I will be adding some sort of log/art on the mesh. It's easy enough to do.

I love the etched Wind Restrictors, but that looks real pro-made. Nice Job Man!

I like it. The issue with the GM one is that you have to drill holes AND it doesn't really look like it's made to "fit", but this follows the lines of the car. It seems to be a bit higher than the acrylic types and that will likely help, but the mesh may offset that advantage.
Let us know how it works on the highway.

Looks WAY BETTER than the GM windscreen - you did do a good job on it & you followed the lines of the car very well.
But with that said - I have to say that I still prefer the Wind Restrictor.

I went to a machine shop to have the metal frame made ($40). The trim is black leather ($30), the mesh is polyester ($12) and a 12 ft roll of Velcro ($7).

I like

as already posted - way better than the OEM version - and if it works it would be a toss up between that and the kappashield type.

I think you could definitely sell that - or at least the detailed plans on how to do it yourself. and with the variety of colors that leather is available in - I would think it should be possible to do it in either matching color or at least some complimentary color for each car.

an interesting experiment would be the effect of different hole sizes in the mesh.

for art work I imagine you could either do some kind of embroidery - or an iron-on patch type of a thing - though you might have to watch out for obstructions to visibility. of course you could always add a rear facing camera (which I have though might be good in the front as well - a license plate mounted camera facing forward so you can avoid ramming curbs and such).

or, depending on the mesh, perhaps you could even airbrush art right onto the mesh itself.

or, some small etched - light up component that would attach to the mesh.
