New Idea

I am not an engineer or manufacturing kind of person at all, but I have had this Idea for sometime.

What if there was a wind deflector of sort that would latch on to the top of the windshield the same way the top does to deflect the air stream over the cab ? This could be installed when the top is down and removed to put the top up. Something made of satin black plastic approximately 2" to 3" with a slight curve ?

Any designers out there with an input?

Mirrors

Seems to me the side mirrors throw more air into the Sky cab/seat then what comes over the top of the car. Older British cars have the mirrors on the front fender because of this issue, and when you slam the door it does not mess up the mirror.
Has anyone else noticed this? With the top down, windows down this shot of air, and air noise comes around the mirror and right into my shoulder. I don't get as much wind from the back where the wind restrictor would go as the side mirrors. Maybe we noticed because hubby riding in the passenger seat noticed the difference from my Sunbeam Alpine without a mirror on the passenger side to the Sky with a mirror. The Corvette we have has the same issue it’s so bad with the top off that the seat belt in the passenger side will vibrate with the wind and slap the car seat making a terrible sound.
Hey GM designers run those Corvettes and Sky’s back through the wind tunnel without the mirrors, then with them, notice any difference YES!
But the windows up look like a dork and Wahoo problem solved!

What hair I have...

I'm over 6 feet tall and the wind coming over the windshield just catchs the top of my head. By the end of a short ride I end up with spiked hair on top. I'm sure that the punk style would appeal to some, but just not my style. So I like the idea of an extender.

Have not noticed the mirror deflected wind, but this posting gives me another excuse to go out for a test drive (another one for my confessions file).

Hat?

R1chy,
Need one of those British hats to wear, heck even a good ball cap would keep the spikes down, guess its a choice spike hair or helmet hair. Another thread but us gals learn real quick how to put the long hair up or tie it down, or wear a hat!

I agree that the air coming over the door seems to be more of a problem than the air coming over the top of the windscreen.

I think that the British "wing mirrors" were placed more for visibility than for aerodynamics, they give you a great view of the side of the car and the edge of the road. My 1963 MGB had both sets, door and wing (fender).
