OBD II W/Lan w/iPhone, iPod Touch

Just wondering if anyone is using an OBD II for their car. Found a new application for the Touch and iPhone that is supposed to interface with the OBD II and give you all kinds of info. Having never done anything like that was just wondering if it's worth pursuing. The application, for any others that have the phone or touch from apple is called REV Lite, done by Dev Toaster. Any help would be appreciated

They haven't completed development yet and it's going to cost in the $150 or greater range (based on the fact that a GOOD OBD 2 compliant reader with bluetooth runs $170 or so). Then you have to remember our cars have a lot of specific PID's (like the onboard wideband) that it likely won't support at first, if ever. So if you consider the price including the iphone/touch, the limited mounting options, and the fact that there is dedicated hardware out there to already do it. I say pass. Get a Dashhawk.

Although the interface is pretty lol.

Thanks, already had the touch, so just needed to know if it was worth playing with the rest of it.

If they allow you to use your own hardware I'll try with my stuff and let you know how it works out.

Yeah, it's strictly a software program for the touch or iPhone, let me know what you think.

I have an iPhone, I meant the OBD hardware. They are going to sell a special adapter that plugs into the OBD port and creates a wireless network inside the car. The phone connects to that wireless network and uses the network to get the data from the OBD port to the phone, which the software than interprets and shows to you. It will let you do a few neat things like use a combination of the OBD data, the gps, and the accellerometer to create a map of the course you drove, in combination with data about how many G's you're pulling, and throttle/brake position etc.

Thanks, this is all new to me and I was trying to figure out what they were saying with this. So is that the $150 you were talking about in the previous post? Seems to me that would be a bit excessive. Would only be worthwhile if you were really hardcore in track or auto-x.

Obviously,I'm new at this. So we're talking like an ElmScan 5 with Bluetooth? I see they run in the price range you mentioned.

We're talking an OBDPro/Elmscan 5 with wifi, not bluetooth. This is actually harder/more expensive to implement than a simple bluetooth. I'd be willing to be the program is free or cheap <$10 because they know they'll make up for it in hardware.
