Oil Change at dealer

Anybody go and get overcharged out the arse? Just found out my wife took hers in to the dealership and they charged her $130 for oil change and rotate tires...a service that Hibdon Tires (biggest tire/maintanence shop in state) charges $52 (fully synthetic as well, rotate is free which Saturn charged $50) for. So a dealership that specializes in the car is $80 more than a shop that services all make and models? Please discuss. I will no longer use Saturn dealer, well the corresponding dealers they sent info on to take our sky in to. I am extremely disappointed as well as upset that we paid $80 extra

DIY: Saturn Sky Red Line Oil Change

There now you saved $100 and know that a good job was done with premium synthetic oil.

I took my Sky to a Chevy dealer by my work, and by the time they were done, it was around $30! Now, the service advisor hooked me up with some discounts, but I was pleasantly surprised the oil/filter change and tire rotation was less than $30. Last time I had that done at the dealer was close to $80. Like was already mentioned, some of the local oil change places will do a filter/oil change and tire rotation for less than $50...

so does it say anywhere that these cars require Mobil 1 fully synthetic or your warranty could be void? b/c that's what the dealer is telling me. he says Hibdon Tire Center does not use mobile 1 which is more expensive is where the $30 price diff comes from. Just wondering if Saturn would actually void your warranty if you used a fully synthetic that was not Mobile 1. I thought this was lil ridiculous.

Anyone know the price of supplies needed for oil change? If it works out to be only $20 or so more for dealer to do it it's worth it

There is a GM spec for the synthetic. I don't have it handy, but it's in the OM. Mobile 1 is one, of many synthetics, that meets the spec. As long as the synthetic meets the GM spec, you should have no problems maintaining warranty. Ask the business changing your oil what brand/type they are using and then check it and see if it meets the spec.

I would strongly recommend you request the business doing the change to list the oil on the work order sufficiently to identify it meets the GM spec. If you DIY, I would recommend you list the brand/type in your maintenance book for the record.

saturn dealer

my first (last? only?) oil change at the (now closed) Saturn dealer was $87 total including tax shop fee etc etc.

I have also had oil changes at other places (on other cars -Sky has only needed one so far) - and I have heard horror stories about some of the quick change places where things happen such as not putting the drain plug back in before refilling or filling before draining etc - and not just urban legends - I know people who had their vehicle messed up and a guy who worked at one and got fired for such screw ups - of course he was all upset because the boss was a jerk - in fact just about every place that guy gets fired from for some major screw up has a jerky boss there, what's up with that?

I had mine changed Thursday night and it cost me a total of 36 after tax, came with a car wash and a little bag of cookies,

what always throws me off is when Steve calls me the next day to thank me for bringing my car in for service, never have gotten used to that.

but then again i really like my saturn dealership.

I recently got the parts in an advertised 'oil change special' at the local Auto Value store with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 for $29 including filter. They didn't have the advertised filter in stock, so I got the K&N oil filter instead at the same price. My dealer charges about $35 to change oil and rotate tires if I provide the oil and filter.
