I also wanted to see if there was anyone else out there who thought the car did not live up to it's original expectations.
Very pretty on the outside, poor, poor performance. But some may like that. I personally want to spend money on a real sports car, one that lives up to it's name and believe me, Honda does. Kinda makes you wonder how EVERY single car in the Indy 500 was powered by a Honda engine-go HONDA!!!!

Stacey -who is spelling better
But not adding too well -- STARTING at 34K -- Well sure it would be better --Heck it better be!
Too many time people compare this to cars 10, 15, 20 thousand dollars more and expect it to measure up.
For an entry into Roadsters -- SKY has it all day.
I have driven cars costing more that have driven worse
Oh BTW last year for that model --- hmmmmm Time to bury the dead.

I'm willing to bet that Stacey hasn't driven a Sky or an S2000. I'm thinking 14 years old, with too many car magazine subscriptions.

While the S2000 has more HP, it has less torque than the Sky, and it only weighs 80 lb less. The torque and HP peaks are 2000 RPM higher than the Sky's, so you'll have to rev the guts out of the engine to get the performance it has to offer. The 0-60 time is a bit better, 6.4 seconds vs our 7.4, but skid pad performance is about even at 0.9g. The S2000 has a shorter final drive ratio, and that, combined with a peaky engine, makes the 6-speed a requirement. Two of the road tests I read resulted in wasted clutches, burned up trying to get the car to launch during the acceleration tests. Yes, the S2000 is abetter performer, but it isn't a night-and-day difference, for almost $10k more. And we won't even talk about looks. Oh yeah, it does have a bigger trunk.

The fact that Honda is the only engine in the IRL does not speak so much to the performance of the engines, as it does to business decisions by auto company executives, although no one would dispute that it is a fine racing engine. Engine manufactures in top-tier racing spend huge amounts of money on development and support, and the value to real-world street-car engineering has been debated again and again. As has the cachet given to race winners (Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday). Honda thinks the IRL is a good investment, others did not, so Honda has it all to itself.

I apologise for using up bandwidth to feed a troll, but I couldn't help myself.

The performance is lackluster-if you want to look goof but never get where your going, this car is for you. I will be happy to chat with anyone who is wanting one but not real sure. Let me save you the money. I bought my Honda s2000 and 2006 is the last eyar to get one. They are a bit more procewise, but well worth it. Check them out at Honda.com.
I really try hard NOT to look "goof", thank you. Why don't you stay at Honda.com and tell all those people what a wonderful choice you think you've made. I agree, spelling matters and your opinion dosen't. You must not know how to drive if you couldn't get your Sky tester to go. I've owned Vettes, Camaros, Chevelle's, Fiats, Mercedes, 442s, RX7s and a race car and for the money, this car ROCKS!!! Any time you want to take your S2000 out for a little road race I'd be happy to and when I get to our finish line destination and pull over and wait for you to arrive I'll gladly accept the envious stares of all who see The SKY.

they can talk bad about the SKY...the little anomaly speaks for itself quietly, winning accolades from the public...and the R/L blows the competition away...The little beast has won the hearts and desires of the public...that is a fact. Scream but no one is listening

Well I finally got my Sky I JUST LOVE THIS CAR!!! Here in Mobile you can count all the sky's in town on one hand. Everytime I drive it you can hear necks snapping when I drive by. One of my co-workers and I came out of our favorite Chinese place and there was 7 guys standing around my car stairing at it... I love it :

Quick question

Hi guys,

I finally picked up my Sky last Sat. after having waited for 7 months! I was so frustrated that I had almost cancelled my order. I am so glad that I didn't. In just two days, I have already driven almost 200 miles!

I have a question for you guys. The sky seems to pick up really slowly in the beginning(<30MPH). Do you guys feel that way too? I really hate to compare this to my previous car (Scion TC), but I felt that my old car was more responsive. Is it because it's new and it takes sometime to get ready? Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same miss givings about my base sky in the begining. After I had driven it a couple thousand miles the low end tourque seemed to improve or I learned how to drive it properly...not sure...but the car does seem to respond better now. BE CAREFUL this care becomes addictive and you'll want to drive it everywhere.

I was just finishing my Chinese delivery dinner and reading this thread.

Honda Honey, here's your fortune:

Instead of giving someone a piece of your mind, give someone the peace of your mind.

Have fun driving your S2000 and have a Merry Christmas!!

For less money with a SKY RL, you get more horsepower, more torque, more headroom and a better looking car... among much more!!!

If you add the only item the S2000 has standard but the SKY RL has as an option, the leather seats, it goes to $29,975.

If you add all options for both, the SKY RL is still still less money.

The SKY RL with only the options also avail on the S2000 is $31,754. If you add all the Saturn options, it is just $34,303 and includes 18" cast chrome rims.

With all options, the S2000 is either $38,265 or 38,585 depending on the material used for the optional shift knob and the type of wing used on the trunk. There is no wheel option... just the stock 17" alloy.

The full list for both wiill be at the bottom.

Let's take a quick look at the SKY Redline VS. S2000.

Sky

I just wanted to say I LOVE my Yellow Sky but wondered if any one had any problems. I had mine for less than a month when the rear axle locked up on me causing me to wreck, Saturn said human error it wasn't sealed right, well anyway they had it for about 2 months and i just got it back and still love it but the front piece no longer lines up correctly and I was scared to death to drive it again.

YIKES!
Well I have had Sunni1 since June -- no problems to speak of at all. Sounds like you got one that someone just did not do their work on! Sorry to hear about it.
First off - take the car back for body panel alignment. If they don't match they need to be taken care of!
Second -- Don't be afraid of the car -- the problem has been repaired -- this car LOVES to be driven....

Has Anyone found a power lock button he was talking about? and mine unlocks as soon as you turn off the key.... I know it is programmable to where no doors unlock automatically, I still want to know where he found the power door lock button....
I'm the author of the review in question. I wrote the review the same day I drove the car, but didn't have the car in front of me. I remembered a power lock button that would not work. But maybe all I remembered was being unable to use the door handle to exit the car with the engine running unless I reached back to the manual knob. End result is the same: it was much more difficult to get out of a running SKY than it should have been.

My understanding is that they've added a power lock button to correct this shortcoming.

I'm one of two people who manage the autos category at Epinions. Always looking for talented reviewers, so please do post reviews there.

Review for anyone considering the Sky

If you're looking for a beautful, unique, muscular looking roadster that commands attention, delivers a solid punch under the hood, handles better than any car you've probably ever driven, yet delivers a very comfortable ride--a car you can feel extremely proud to own but won't break your bank account, the Sky is for you. Let me also say that the pictures just don't do it justice. I think everyone who owns one would agree that the car is 100 times better looking in person. I love how infuriated the BMW and Benz owners are who spend twice the money on their car while everyone is staring at my car. Sure, the manual top is a pain, but I'd much rather OWN the car with a manual top than be ADMIRING the car with a power top because it's now too rich for my bankroll. And all the talk about the top being "awkward," it is true for the first 3 or 4 times you put it down. Once it's broken in, it's not as stiff and there really is no problem. Saturn certainly got it right with this car.

Disclaimers: Can't speak to the durability--only have 2,500 miles on it. Hoping no problems with the LSD, but the warranty should have me covered. And can't talk about the base, but the redline has more than adequate power. If you're considering a roadster at all, you owe it to yourself to look at the Sky.
