Parking lot double take

Who else looks back at their Sky's a few times while walking away from it in a parking lot?

It's just so cool looking

When I am out at lunch, I like to sit where I can see the car - mostly just to watch the reactions of other people when they see it.

Every time I took the garbage into the garage this last winter I would see her there under her blankie
and I would say "Hi, Baby"

I also like to see the reflection when driving by the big store-front picture windows!

I never look back ever... untrue LAC! Yes I'm guilty, have done the store window look about. It looks good with me in it.

While I do leave my car, with the top down, I like to be within sight of it, just in case the car needs me...lol. While lunching away somewhere, and viewing the kappa from an approved owner distance... ( keep back 300 ft. ) the reaction some people give to our gem is priceless.

Some personal related reflection as to this: The two teenagers, taking " selfie shots " posing in front of my car. The business woman dressed to the max, doing a double take as she walks by, almost broke her high heels doing this. I damn near choked on my turkey club sandwich while watching her. The family of three, strolling out to their car, and the little one ask her dad, What is that daddy? I'm not sure honey, I'll find out, you wait. The wife is having a permagrin moment, just from the glint in her eye. I was close by, and said... " You like that?" Sure they said, looks cool. Is it yours? Why yes it is, they don't make these anymore. That's a shame, I like it, I would buy one, if I knew what it was? Is it an import? Well not exactly...

I've always driven my cars downtown at night to see the reflection in the big windows. I don't feel badly now knowing that others do it.

After my first stop for gas when I was bringing it home, I came around the corner and saw it and I thought "Wow, a Sky! That's sweet.." About that time I realized it was MINE! This has happened more than once.

Had a guy that looked like he'd just come out a mine after 10 years guess that it was a Kia! His wife wanted it for her birthday, but his birthday was first. I told them I'd sell it to them.

Just 2 days ago, a guy on a nice, big, fat Harley told me "I wish they still made those. Hell, the Pontiac one was alright too."

My students stand by all gape-mouthed when they see me leave work as they stand on the curb waiting for whichever parent to pick them up in the Camry/Lexus/SUV/Biggie Truck (most of the time it's a Truck).

I saw a meme once that said:

"If you don't look back at your car as you're walking away after parking it...

...you bought the wrong car."

So very true...every day...in the parking lot, in the garage, wherever I park it...I look. Every. Damn. Time...

Things I have found I can't stop doing:

1.) Look at my car as I walk away even if doing so means risking my life walking blindly into traffic.
2.) Feel like a piece of me has died for every mile driven adding to the dreaded odometer life gauge while making me feel guilty for even driving it, like I am somehow contributing to the extinction of a species.
3.) Fantasy shop for all of the things I would like to do to the car without letting the Asian half of me completely take over.
4.) Trying to convince myself this is not a daily driver when in reality I can't quit this car anymore than an heroin addict can stop cold turkey.
5.) Hand washing my car and waxing it once a week because ANY dirt on my car freaks me out and doing it myself because I don't trust anyone but me to handle my car.
6.) Wishing GM had never sold the kappa design to Tauro only to have them murder the design with the V8 spider and charge $130k for 440hp version of our car.
7.) Oh and checking this website daily for pictures and ideas.....

I don't think GM had anything to do with it. Tauro just takes Solstice/Sky cars and "converts" them into a "Tauro".

GM never sold the Kappa design to anyone. Tauro bought Solstices on the used market, stripped the body work, installed new bodywork and interiors, did the V8 conversion, and sold them as "new".

Tauro is now out of business and the conversion shop is on the market, so I hear.

Well then if that is the case does this mean there is hope that GM will one day bring the design back?

That would be extremely unlikely (and probably pretty foolish).

It is (slightly) possible that they might produce some sort of new convertible (and use what they learned from building the Kappa platform), but the Kappa platform itself will not be returning.

Yes. That is soooo true. Except for the two minivans I've owned, I've always looked back at my cars (and SUVs) while walking away after parking.

1 - the Kappa is never coming back. In fact I doubt they'll ever try another small sports car.
GM tried small sports cars twice and canned them both after a few years (three times if you want to include the Corvair, which I wouldn't). I could see something like a Cruze convertible, but not a true sports car.

2 - the Pontiac name may well be recycled at some point in the future as one assumes that they wanted to keep that option open when they retained the name

3 - I like looking at all of my cars. One of the things that prompted me to buy them was that I liked the looks, and looking at then from different angles and in company with other cars I own is the optical equivalent of listening to soothing music. (The other reason I bought most of them is performance, and using that is anything but soothing!)
