Pics/dealer Repaired Saggy Seat!

Even though I own a GXP, I have detailed a few Sky's and it appears your cars have the saggy seat issue also, I got mine repaired under warrenty, so if you have this problem, you have can get help from your dealer, hope this helps some people out............

My dealer never disagreed with me about the saggy seat issue, and he said he would repair it under warrenty and he made good on his word, here is the info so others might benefit. First of all he didn't do the repair at the dealship, he had it done at an interior shop that does nothing but interior work, When I was talking to the guy at that shop, he told me some things if importance. The foam backing used in our cars is called "desinagrating foam" in other words eventually you will be sitting on nothing other than your springs. He had to take into consideration my height (6' 4") before he made the repair, too much foam would have me sit 2 or more inches higher, in my case that would be a diaster, he what he did was remove the seat and leather cover, he re enforced the area on top of the springs, and then used a high quality foam that he said would out last the car. He used just enough so I don't sit up to much higher, I do sit a little higher because I'm not sinking way down into the seat now, its a firmer feel, but I like it alot, he was careful not to tighter the leather or use too much foam, as you can see in the after pic it still has a little give there, however its a 99% improvement, and the best part it cost me nothing. Hope everyone has luck with their dealership on this issue, mine is driven by customer service. Good Luck!!!Oh, and he gave me a loaner car to boot!!!! Gary

Good information !

Thanks for posting the thorough description of the problem and the solution. There are a fair number of people complainting about and disappointed with sagging seats. How can this information get pushed back into GM so they can make a design change permanently fixing the problem?

Lear developed the seats and was forced to use that type of foam. The "good" stuff cost too much and put the total seat price above what GM wanted to pay. I got this information from one of the quality engineers that worked on the project. She got so fed up that she left Lear for a another position.

End result, crappy seats that show sagging leather after 2 months of ownership......

Mark, from what I'm being told these seats by design were done this way, however I don't they gave enough thought about how it would look and more importantly hold up, I would bet if enough people complain about it, they will make a change in future models, gary

This really is a warranty thing!? SWEET! My driver's seat looks just like the before picture.

Now if only I could get them and the door panels done in a nice, dark blue...

I have the beginnings of the "sag" and I only have 220 miles on my baby...and I don't have a big butt! I know, TMI! This will be added to my list of things to take to the dealer on my next service. Thanks HoldHard!

Was there any trouble convincing the dealer to do the fix or did they just up and offer? I would hate for it to be a bad discussion if my seat starts to go.

Mine sags too, but I have a bony butt and if they made it firmer, it might make my bottom hurt, so I'm not sure if I want to bring it up.

Got my driver's seat replaced yesterday under warrenty Feels 100% better. Just hope I don't have to do it again in a year and a half. The service people told me that GM spent so much money under the car that they cut corners on the seats. Now I'm wondering if I should have them do the passenger side as well, but that seat isn't used all too often.

My dealership took one look at the seat and ordered me new foam. After installing the new upgraded foam, I still had some loose leather, so they are ordering new leather for the seat. I had no problem at all with the dealership fixing the seat. It seems more and more SKYs are having this problem. Have it checked at you dealership. T.

You say "upgraded foam", is it really a new type of foam or did they just replace the existing foam with a new piece of the same type?

My dealer said my sagging was "normal", and when I asked about a new foam piece they said that they didn't know anything about it.

If it's a new piece, can you give the part number?

This is the number from the service invoice 15145421 PAD ASM -D Y
It's not normal.... I was sinking. Keep us posted T. I am not sure what kind of foam they put in. I will ask when they replace the leather.

I took my sagging seat problem to my dealer. They sent me to a local auto upholster who added a better quality foam to both seats. 3 hours later I had my car back, that was approx 2 months ago, no problems since. Warranty picked up the tab.

I have this same problem! I can't open the pictures I would sure like to be able to see what everyone is talking about.

Shortly after we bought our car and way before I ever read a thread about "sagging seats" I knew something was not right with the lower seat cushion on both seats. I'm 215 lbs and I bottom out in them easily. The seat cushion just doesn't fit snug...looks bad! We have only 5,600 miles on the car and this is happening.

Our 2000 Durango with leather interior and over 150,000 miles has soft yet firm seat's after all these years.
