Oh how much bigger the SKY looks.

One thing I like about the SKY is the wide stance. During development there was a lot of inertia at GM to shrink the width. You save big-time on weight when you thin out a car, and weight was constantly on their mind. But you lose the stance when you thin 'em out.

This is the reason each of the roadsters, and cars like Elise, are unique in what they deliver to the customer. And it's why comparisons about which is better "overall" is worthless. Each has its pros and cons. You buy the one where you like the pros and can live with the cons.

Who would win the 1/4 mile? Or come over the line on a twisty track?

Hi, I'm a Sky newbie here...just picked mine up at the end of March and haven't had a chance to get her into any quality photo ops, yet. But, here are a couple I snapped while I've been waiting for the Utah weather to clear (please forgive the quality).

Other cars may get attention because they cost so damn much or can do 0 - 60 in 4 seconds or less ... but parked side by side with a Kappa car ... (be it a Solstice or Sky) ... our's can more than hold its own as far as beauty lines. And as far as "off track" speed, most of us would like a bump or two more ... but it is very respectable stock. Happy trails everyone!

Elise is insanely lightweight and revs high....1000 lbs LESS than the SKY and tops out at 7800 RPM. And it does better on the g pad than the SKY.

So, if I had to put my money on the first to 60, the qtr mile, and the twisty track. I'd pick a 2008 Elise over a 2008 RL. Remember, the Elise is DESIGNED to give you a Formula 1 feel in a street legal racer. Hell, the lower end of its very narrow power band where its torque peaks (6800) is past the redline of the Red Line! If you like to play in a narrow powerband, keeping revs insanely high for max performance, and love heel toe driving (I'm guessing this is a key to driving Elise, based solely on the power band, as I've never driven one), with close ratio performance gearing (another guess given the power band), then the Elise is for you.

Having said that, considering I'm not a close-gear racer, and have no experience driving small power band high reving engines, and can't heel/toe, if you take me (as the driver), I suspect "me" in my SKY will smoke "me" in an Elise in all of the above categories.

These are extremely different cars requiring significantly different driving styles.

I have a friend who has an Exige, and while it is a great car, it does not have much low-end torque. The engine is the same as a Celica GTS (which is what I used to own).

The Exige/Elise expects its light weight to compensate for the low torque. However, while the light weight certainly helps, I believe that the RL will give it more of a challenge than you think.

Here's Maybellene with her big brother.

My Trans Am is a beast. Big, strong, full of stamina, roars like a Lion, scares people away and turns the quarter mile in 13:46 @ 103 mph with a top speed of 145. The King of the beasts!

Maybellene is like a Cheetah. Shapely body, low to the ground, well balanced, quick in the sprints, fast in the turns and everyone wants to pet her. Her majesty, the Queen!
