Pioneer 4200NEX install w/backup camera video

I recently installed a Pioneer 4200NEX head unit and backup camera in my Sky. I videoed the installation (except for taking the lower dash off. There are other videos and instructions on how to do that).

You can view it on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/3pffd9UgWlo

I hope it helps others wanting to do a head unit / backup camera install.

Edit - I forgot to mention that this particular unit has the Android Auto feature (as well as Apple Car Play) so I now have all of the "Ok Google" functionality as well as being able to use Google maps. I may do a quick video on that once I know how to use it to it's fullest.

mmartin, not only did you cover everything needed to know on installing the product, you have done an excellent job of producing the video piece. Producing the video is no small task for most of us, IMO.

Thank you for this video. I purchased my 2007 Sky 2.4L last month and have been thinking of doing this same project.

Are there any tricks to removing the dash panels? I want to avoid breaking any clips.

Thanks. I've installed a few head units in the past, but nothing with a backup camera. I watched a bunch of Youtube videos before I did my install, and there was only one that installed one on the Sky. But it wasn't all that detailed. However, that video told me to look for the green wire under the door sill. Unfortunately (as you may have seen in my video) there are a few green wires and I tapped into the wrong one at first.

And I agree. Producing a video is no small task and I thank you for appreciating it. But it is fun. I may start my own Youtube channel (with better production values) for my Sky and all of the mods I plan on doing. I have a laundry list of them...lol.

On sunny days it is tough to see with the top down. Not quite as bad on overcast days. Evenings and nighttime are obviously not a problem.

When I first installed it, the screen wasn't bright at all even on cloudy days. That's when I realized that the screen was dimmed because of my daytime running lights.

I then changed a setting on the head unit to ignore the headlights and stay bright from 6:00 am till 8:00 pm...then dim during all the other hours.

I ran the mic wire up the passenger a-piller and across the top towards the driver side corner. I pulled back the passenger a-piller trim and that was a bit of a pain. It's on there pretty tight. I then removed the two sun visors first and was able to pull down the trim enough to tuck the wire up in there. I also taped parts of it down so it wouldn't move around. Below are the photos of the mic. I must have bumped it because it's not at the correct angle and I didn't pay attention when taking the photos.

It must be a fairly decent mic because I called my wife and was talking to her while driving with the top down (around 35-40 mph) and she could still hear me. She said she could also hear the wind as well but could hear me fine.

Too late now..but the members who changed out their headsets would usually mount the mic sitting on top of their new headset...sound travels through the center vents. Everything hidden.

Wouldn't you get a lot of wind noise if the HVAC is on? Mine is right in the middle of the steering column.

Nothing is ever too late for me if I see a better solution

I don't think I understand where they're mounting the mic when you say above the headset (I assume you mean head unit). Do you mean up on the dash above the vents? Or behind the center console on top of the actual head unit itself? If so, I've never seen or heard of that one. If you can direct me to some photos, I'd love to see them.

If you look at the photo below, I believe this is the placement for the factory mic (if there is such a thing). So mine is close to that.

Yes..I do mean head unit...the old days u could research past threads. With the new format, it is virtually impossible...at least for me, so no pics are available to view..but mics can sit on the head unit...or when the dash is apart there are areas behind the dash where u can mount it. Just an afterthought.
