PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY [an AFTERMARKET] "Extended warranty"

After buying the extended warranty from my local dealer and he said "oh yes it will basically cover the same thing the 3/36 covered! NO IT DOES NOT!! Now that my clutch is messed up and the slave cylinder was changed with NO help. The trany is coming out. I find out the extended warranty I bought doesn't cover those parts.
If you buy a extended warranty ask them about a SSP "Saturn service plan" the local dealer doesn't even offer it. Just a separate company.
After reading mine closer. It doesn't cover paint, panels, brakes, clutch, any hydraulics and most everything else that the 5/100,000 does cover. Yes it would cover the A/C. and some other things but PLEASE read before you buy!!
If not you do have 30 days to say no and get your money back and can still cancel at any time.
Don't get me wrong The guys here at the dealership treat me really good this is for all of you. My Sky Sisters and Brothers

Thanks for the info - I purchased a two year extended warranty on my 2 week old Redline.

The sales guy said it extended the factory 3 year warranty 2 years.

Guess I better read up real fast.

BTW - this forum could use a "Before you buy your Sky" checklist.

Hi Ricky D.

So was the plan you bought the SSP or an aftermarket extended warranty? I ALWAYS buy it with a new car and with all the problems a lot of the SKY's have been having I was planning on getting one for sure!! I always get the 5yr/100,000 coverage direct from the company/dealer. I currently have one on my Ford I'm going to be getting rid of when I get the SKY and it's just like having the 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper. Any additional info would greatly be appreciated!! Thanks, MAX

Ok it is like this. I am going to pi$$ a bunch of dealers off here. I worked at several car and bike dealers for over 20 years. When you get the extended warranty offer it is a rip off. If they give you the song and dance about how good is is for only $2200.00 and you buy it, that means the dealer just made a extra $1100.00 off the sale. What you are buying is a insurance policy that is not form any car manufactor. It is from a insurance company. Most of the extended warranty's only cover parts that are internaly lubercated. Think about that. It will cover the things that never go bad. They dont cover things like calipers, steering parts, heat and air con parts. Read the fine print and do not let the dealer add the cost of this to the final price of the car.

From my experience NOT true at all!! Between my father and I we have had 3 huge saves with exteneded warrantys on full transmissions alone!! Mine was one a 99 Ford Ranger. Dad's was on two Dodge Caravan trannies. One had 92,000 miles on it and the other just over 38,000! Both of my Dad's happened on vaction trips and were taken care of very fast. First was with an aftermarket warranty and second was with Dodge. Mine was with a Ford warranty. So for $2000 we paid for a $3000+ transmisson plus other minor things that have happened.... So yes in a way it is an insurance policy, but one that I have found through experience is worth it!! Just like my life insurance policy!! For about $6000 I pay over 20 yrs the old lady will get a half million if something happens to me... MAX

ok here's all the scoop

First it is not a SSP it is from a separate company called Olympicare. Now her is what it says on the back of the front sheet. This is the list of all repairs covered on my car "with the exceptions of the following items"
paint/carpet, frame or structure,trim,airbags,moldings/bumpers,bright metals,upholstery,exhaust systems,brakes/rotors/drums,batteries,belts,coolant/heater/vacuum hoses,distributor caps,lenses,lights,struts/shocks,weather stripping,body parts,canvas,vinyl,thermostat,fiberglass,tires/wheels,battery cables,spark plug & wires,physical damage,normal fluid/oil/lubrication seepage,manual/hydraulic clutch system,CV joint boots,any repositioning or realigning, all maintenance service and items such as alignment,wheels,balance,engine tuneup,brake pads,filters,lubricants,belts.
So I guess it would cover the radio, heater,AC, and then the way it looks to me is everything else should be covered by the 5/100000 power train warranty. BUT!!! the dealer told me even the GM power train warranty doesn't cove the clutch assy if only worn. We will see when the get it out.

Yeah I would NEVER buy an aftermarket warranty like that!! Always get one from whatever auto maker you are buying from ie. SSP, GMSP, or Ford Extended Service/Protection Plan, etc...
