Possible Scam

Did anyone else get a pink postcard in the mail the week of February 24th that leads off: EXPIRED WARRANTY NOTIFICATION **FINAL NOTICE**

It seemed a little shady because it didn't have the Model Year or Make and the address was listed as "Vehicle Services." There is no mention of GM or Saturn on the postcard. When I called the toll free number they wouldn't give me any information before I gave them my VIN # and exact miles so I didn't give it.

SKYRCKT is under warranty until May so it shouln't be time to extend it.

Is this for real?

Probably not....I get those in the mail all the time. Seems pretty fishy to me.

Not usually a SCAM perse', just an aftermarket warranty company trying to sell you an extended warranty...

More like a spam rather than a scam. I just toss 'em.

Yeah, it's an aftermarket extended warranty company trying to get you to bite. They use somewhat shady practices in how they spam you, which is a good reason to stay away.

Quick note from a postal employee :

If you get something 'official' looking like that check the postmark. If it says "Standard Mail" then its usually junk. If Saturn or your warranty company was telling you your doo-hickey expired they'd send it "First-Class" or "Presort" mail.

I got the exact same thing. Just an aftermarket company trying to get business. I tossed it. It does kinda p#ss me off when any company sends out mail that looks like an "official notice". Good advice from Thornus, thanks!

Of course, I've seen some companies use "reverse psychology". I've received a bonafide bill dressed up in official appeal that only spammers use. Almost tossed it without opening it.

As a retired postal employee, I wonder if Saturn or the dealer is selling their mailing list. Of course, if they are, it is nothing new. It goes on all the time.

They probably get it from the free public records.

I love the ones that do say a vehicle -
because it is usually one that I have not owned for several years.

I received one about a month after I bought my car.
They had a guy calling my mother every day trying to scare her into getting a warranty through them on her SC2. He was quite supprised when a pissed off Irishman jumped on the phone one afternoon and started pushing for company names and phone numbers and his name so that I could turn him into the police.I then proceded to verbally tear him a new @$$h@le. Haven't heard from him since.
Idon't take kindly to anyone pickin on Me MAA!

If a telemarketer calls I ask them to hold on a minute and put the phone down and go on with what I was doing. If it is a computer voice I hit the pound key about thirty times and somehow it clicks them off the line... Of course if it is a live person play games with them...The warrenty people I tell them I have been walking since the last accident four years ago and my ex got the car....Skip....

When they call this is my conversation:

Them: Mr. So and So?
Me: That's me.
Them: Mr. So and So! How are you doing today?
Me: Great! Thanks for asking! *Click*

I think its nice that people call just to see how you're feeling!

Ya know, what would really be funny is if after they asked how you were doing you say:
"Well thank you for asking, you see I have had a really bad day. First my boss.... "

Just go on and on until they finally give up and hang up. Or if you run out of things to say just say: "thanks for listening" and hang up.
