Power door locks.

So my 2007 Saturn sky has a driver's side power door lock switch that will unlock, but not lock. That kinda bugs me so I wanted to put in a new switch. I was looking on eBay and someone is selling one for the passenger side. But I have two questions.

1. Would a passenger side door lock switch work on the driver's side?

2. As you can see in the photos below, mine has the little lock pictures with the unlock on the bottom and the lock on the top. However, the replacement has it the opposite way.

3. If the passenger lock switch would work on the driver's side, would it still work properly if the switch is backwards? Basically, once I installed the switch, I would unlock hitting the top of the switch and lock hitting the bottom (opposite from what I do now)?

This is a mid 2007 thing. (Early 2007s like mine don't have this switch at all!) I want to say the switch you have pictured from eBay is the newer switch since unlock you'd pull "up" on the mechanical door lock and you'd press "down" to lock it...this switch reflects this intuitive nature of a door lock.

The earlier models...like in your car...were reverse if memory serves. The interchangeability of this though I have no idea. @Hoosier GXP or @TomatoSoup?

The driver's and passenger's switches are identical electrically, so they are interchangeable from an operational point of view. If it fits physically, and if the plug is the same, you can use it. What should happen though is that it will operate upside down, but consistently with its marking.

I noticed this difference just a couple of days ago.

I (previously) had a very early 2008 Sky, and it had the upside-down switch (press down to unlock). My new Sky (also a 2008, but built about 6 months later), has the "new" switches (press up to unlock).

I always thought that the old switches were dumb, but now that I am used to them, the new switches feel wrong.

Stop all this now. Listen to me...if I was you, I would buy a drivers side door panel with the switch there. These switches are plastic welded onto the door...not screwed.

Robo...we both have early cars but I was able to install the door unlock/lock switch in my car. If u r interested on this install....let me know. It is relatively simple. All these switches go through the BCM...

I've been looking for driver side door panels and not having much luck. Plenty of passenger door panels though.

So there's no way to swap that switch out. Crap. I hope the side mirror switch isn't the same way because I purchased one if those to fix mine.

What about the round part of our door panels? The section that's sometimes red or tan depending on the interior. I was thinking of wrapping or painting mine and it would be nice to take that section off.

It can be done...If u r interested in a drivers side door panel...SkyDragon is parting out his 2009 SKY SE Merlot ....there may be red stitching by his door handle only. Otherwise, no big deal. He lives in Bradenton, Fl. He is married to SKY07 aka Betty Boop affectionately called.

I don't have specific knowledge of that switch attachment, but most welded plastic parts can be removed and re-attached. It isn't pretty when you are done, but it does work, and the ugliness is completely hidden, so really doesn't matter.

The "welding" is originally done by melting a post that is molded into one part to flare it out in the hole of the mating part. Removing it involves drilling and/or cutting the melted plastic out of the hole. Re-attaching is done using a soldering iron or better yet, a ski repair tool, and some scrap ABS to fuse a new cap on the post. You can also glue them back together, but I generally prefer re-welding.
