Problem with Chromies

I bought the Lil' Chromies for my Sky (they are the chrome door pulls). I was able to get off the vinyl door pulls with no problem, but when I try to put the Lil' Chromies on I find that they won't screw onto the post properly.

They go all the way on, but they are loose. The instructions say to just screw it on, but it seems like I'm missing something.

The passenger door is very loose and the driver's side is only slightly snug. Is there an extra step I'm not aware of?

It isn't a big problem right now as I never use them to unlock the car, but I would like to make them secure.

Any ideas?

Mine came with a lock-tight type of glue!

But if you use the glue, getting them off could be an issue...

You know what? I think I remember seeing another small item in the packaging (I got it with the UpShield). I have to try and find it. I don't really care if it is permanent or not.

In my mind I thought they were threaded and would just screw on. This is not the case though.

Duh. I thought I read the instructions before, but I didn't. Stupid me.

But if you don't use the glue - they won't tighten.

Seriously though, I think the glue they supply would soften with a hair dryer to remove them.

Anyone know for sure?

Anerobic thread lockers, like Loctite, can be released with heat. But it depends on which type. The blue is a light locker and wouldn't need heat. May be necessary on the red. If it's green, then you might as well buy a new door. You need very high heat, like from a gas axe, for the green.

My favorite post of the thread, for sure!

The thread locker that comes with the chromies is RED. It comes in a tiny little package INSIDE the little pouch you get. I too thought the lock pulls would be a machine screw type thread, but was very disappointed to see that course wood screw looking thread.

The lock tight works great though. One drop inside the chromie and smear some on the threads with your finger. Do not get any on the paint or plastic, I hear it can stain.

The red should be fairly easy to remove. We use both the blue and the red at work. I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine were not even close to screwing on. But I used the locktite that came with it and they have been fine now for 8 months.

Those are not machine threads, and therefore you cannot screw on a replacement. The contours of the pust cut into the vinyl pulls - something they cannot do with stainless steel. You need the Loctite.

By the way, even if they are secured they are small enough to remove the door panel even with them left in place. You have no need to remove them to get inside the door.

If you haven't done it yet. Don't use four drops I think its too much and messy. I had to bring my locks up and down several times and wipe off the excess. Try two and a half drops if you can manage that.

Well, I did it, and I'll find out today if it really stuck.

Of course nothing goes right. I did my best to cut the opening so the stuff would come out of the spout, but the pouch wasn't made right and the stuff started coming out of everywhere but.

I got probably too little in one and too much in the other. Oh well, it could have been worse.

Now I'll be fretting my whole UpShield install. Mainly because I don't want to wait until the temp never drops below 60. That might take me into May and I want that thing on Yesterday.

You can buy locktite at any auto parts store.
