Put Your Top Down If It Is Wet?

I leave for work around 5:30 AM the sun is usually just coming up and there is still morning dew on my car including the top. That is usually the best time to ride with the top down. The cool morning air on my drive to work is great but I worry about putting the top down while it is still wet from the morning dew.

If the dew is just laying on the surface of the top, try blotting it off with a microfiber towel or a drying cloth. That usually works for me to get moisture off the roof.

I use a microfiber towel after washing mine if I want to put the top down immediately. They work great. Just make sure that you have wash the towel a couple of times or you will have lint all over your top.

If you run to work with the top down and put it up for the day, it should dry and be fine. it's the putting a wet top down and leaving it all day that could start problems.

Dengel it right too - dry it off a bit before heading out. A little extra time couldn't hurt.

That is what I have been doing. Blotting it with a microfiber towel, then when I get to the garage at work (about an hours drive) I put the top back up. Seems to be dry by then.

I treated my top with 303 fabric top stuff and the water blots off easier but I still have to blot it.

My concern isn't actually the top remaining wet - it is more the fact that the wet top can transfer moisture to the carpeting inside the trunk. If the carpet in the trunk gets wet, that would stay trapped in the trunk and could make the trunky musty.

The protectant stuff I use - Raggtop - does that same thing. Kinda like 'wax' for your top, water beads up and can almost be swept off with your hand then, a bit of blotting and wallah, dry top.

Maybe, but the truck is lined in plastic and is vented just above the rear license plate.

Our trunks get rather warm, can you say FREAKIN HOT, I don't think we will have a problem with the musty carpet but if you leave a can of coke in there it will explode, been there done that.

Took a road trip with the wife last weekend. Had some stick type deodorant in my backpack in the trunk. Got to the hotel to find that it had melted.

So probably not a good idea to put my laptop in the trunk?

Nope - and probably shouldn't leave a pitcher of margaritas in there, either. But if we put it in a cooler between the feet of the passenger, it's a little too tempting to drink and drive!

Unless I'm going straight home, the laptop goes in the trunk...

Anybody actually measure how hot it gets back there?
