Question for Sky/Sol owners with aftermarket turbos....

I'm curious to know if those of you with aftermarket turbos like Hahn or Werks use your Sky as a daily driver or if it is more of a project car or weekend car or track car.

If it's your daily driver, are you concerned about things like long-term reliability, warranty issues, etc? And have you had any of those issues yet?

The worst of anything happening with a Hahn was this case with Roadie Rob,
Turbo Fire on Hahn II (need some technical expert opinions please) where the turbo caught fire. HHmm, you know, he has not posted a reply to this incident yet--Anyways, it has pics, apparently the 3 bolts on the Hahn came off and with the heat and all, there was some serious heat going on under the hood--I'll have to re-read that thread, now I don't recall what other heat/fire caused any other damage--

Since I am in the same boat as you with the auto, I'll be looking at the stage I Hahn kit when ever it is available.

PS: If you go to the performance section, you will find many threads regarding Hahn--

The reason it caught on fire is roadie rob did not retorque his bolts after going through a couple hot and cold cycles...Skip...

Working in the Aviation industry. I think it would be a good idea to safety wire the bolts. That way even if they do come loose they cant turn out and leave a huge gap in the gasket area. Just a thought.

To safety wire you would have to drill holes into the head of the bolts. Would not that weaken the head of the bolt and there by causing not enough torque on said bolts when installing to begin with? Other than that safety wire is the way to go unless the use of a locking flange is better...Skip...

Actually drilling the head with a jewelers drill which is very thin doesnt weaken the head at all. Although it is tricky. I raced Motorcycles for 41/2 years and on bikes as well as race cars, everything has to be safety wired. You could even get grade 8 bolts if you are worried about it.

It'd be easier to buy a kit that replaces the bolts with NAS or AN spec bolts that are pre-drilled.

I don't know where you could buy them for the general public, but there's got to be someplace that sells them.

Since the bolts seem to be a problem, any idea why Hahn doesn't include the better ones as part of the kit?
