Raining Inside

Has anyone had any issues with rain getting in their car?

I had my car park outside lastnight during a pretty good rain storm. When I came out to my car to go home after the rain had stopped, I opend my car door and noticed that there was water all over the center console. It seemed like it must have come in between the top of the windshield and the roof. I ran my fingers across the top and it was wet on the inside.

Have had the duckmobile is heavy rain on the ride home from the dealer, no leaks. I would recommend you take it through a power brushless carwash (bring a couple of towels with you) and find out exactly where the water is coming in. Sounds like a seal problem above the windshield.

The people who have had leaks all (or nearly all) seem to mention the "water in the center console" symptom.
I agree - see if you can find exactly where it comes from if nothing more than to aim the service department in the right directions, if you don't find a simple solution yourself...

I just posted a suggestion on the other thread, sounds like your top is not sealing correctly. I would take it back to the dealer, you could do the high pressure car wash just so you can say it leaks HERE!

If you do take it through a car wash take along a couple of towels and a flash light...Skip...pin point where it comes through and then check your seal for defects....Skip...

There Is A Service Bulletin In Regards To Water Leaking Down On The Center Console. They Will Place Silicone At Two Spots On The Top That Does Not Fit Properly. This Did Not Fix My Leak. They Replaced The Front Seal Yesterday Morning And Water Tested. In The Afternoon After A Rain Storm Noticed The Leak Was Worst Than Ever. It Goes Back In Tommorrow Until They Can Fix It Right. There Are So Many Service Bulletins In Regards To The Top..i Just Don't Think Saturn Was Ready For The Convertible Top Issues. Good Luck.

IMHO, most of these leaks were probably self inflicted wounds by new owners, by improperly storing or raising & securing the top, (some perhaps were defects.)(or was damaged before the owner took over because of the above) By that I mean, it does not take much to damage that front seal with the lock down mechanism. If people are not careful, when the top is brought forward, and you do not line it up perfect, you can gouge that front seal on the wind shield, guess where? thats right just above the center console. Others do not line up the pins on the upper left/right BEFORE locking down the mechanism, thereby, perhaps damaging the seals and or the alignment of the top when they lock it down forcefully without top properly seated. Granted, not many in the dealers even knew the "How to" do the tops. My dealer did not. We figured it out. I would think however, that they should now be able to teach the proper do's and don'ts on this top when a new owner picks up their sky.. I bet, there is still a problem with dealers NOT teaching the proper procedures--

MB - I pretty much agree.
And to an earlier poster -- I don't think Saturn was ready for a convertible at all. Still it does seem the leaks are not very numerous (I know -- for those of you that have them the rate is 100%). You just think some of the knowlege (service bulletins, experience etc) would be shared more.
I have been lucky -- but yeah -- drag the center clip on the seal -- Could leak. Poke the top tins (L & R front corners) and you can rip the seal...

My roof leaks onto the shifting console during heavy rains, too. I've learned to just always carry a towel in the car with me and drape it over the console when I know it's going to rain and the car will parked outside for an extended period of time (like at work). We will soon be getting a RL and trading in our base, so it's not worth the effort to take the car in to the dealership for it, at this point.

Let the next buyer worry about it when they buy it--One reason why I'll NEVER buy a used car again, lessons learned the hard way --All your doing is inheriting someones else headaches-- Used car buyers BEWARE!! Not just on this car, but ANY car--There usually a reason a person gets rid of a 1 or 2 year old car--usually they are not good--

This is the fourth trip into service for a leaking top. Everytime I get it back it's worst than before. Any rain and there's water on the center console and both seats. The regional factory rep is supposed to look at it next week. I've had 6 different rental cars so far and am getting tired of all these trips back to service. If it wasn't for the fact that I love the car (minus the rain inside) I sell it in a heartbeat. There's also a current 18 month wait at the dealership for a new sky. What are the chances Saturn will stepup and replace my r/l with another one???

I had this issue with my first sky. I took it back to the dealership. They were able to replace the seal along the top where the latch for the roof is which fixed the issue. There is a bulletin from around June of last year that should tell the service department how to fix this. My dealership in Columbia, SC didn't know about it until I told them, but once I did they had not problems getting the replacement parts and fixing the issue.

Thanks for your reply...They have replaced the seal along the top front and placed silicone at two locations as per a service bulletin. However, after each repair the leakage became worst. They seem completely lost at this point and will investigate the leakage again and again.

Have them get a reputable convertible shop to take the top off and readjust it. Mine was too tight and when I put the buttresses down it pulled the top away from the seal just a slight bit enough to allow rain to get in. Once they had the new top on there were not anymore leaks

It wasn't rain at all...it was your car crying because it missed you. It thought you were mad at it, and made it sleep out in the rain.

I just went through a touch free power wash today and mine leaks through both sides of the A and B pillars. =( I put the top up using the recommended methods and made sure the B-pillars were sealed correctly. I don't get any leaks on the center console though. Just through the A and B gaps. *sigh* I'll have the dealership look at it when I take it in for an oil change.

Urgh! It is raining inside my Sky too! The passenger side carpet gets wet when it rains. The only place where I have water (on the door) is down by the speaker. So I don't think it is coming from around the window. I took it in and they had my Sky for a week and they replaced the seal and aligned the top. Well...it did NOT work! Anyone else with this problem?

The owners manual says specifically to not take the car through a car wash. I doubt the dealer will do anything about it unless it leaks during a regular rainstorm. I've taken mine through a touch free car wash several times. The first few times it did not leak. One day it suddenly started leaking. My solution is to bring a towel with me from now on.

so far no leaks in the rain but I have found that if the car is wet, like after a rainstorm, if I roll down the window I get a huge torrent of water fall into the car from the front part of the top. it's not a leak, just how the water runs off the roof. If the window is open it will run right into the car. I was the source of quite a bit of morning entertainment at work one day when I walked in with a huge wet spot on my pant leg.
