Realistic General Manager Statement?

I have just joined this forum after visiting it for a number of months and am looking for an opinion on the following:

Last October I signed up for a waiting list at a dealer and gave them a deposit check which they just held onto, without cashing it. I was told that I was number 42 in the waiting list before I could order and that I should reach the end of the waiting list by sometime this summer.

On January 27th, I placed an order for a R/L with another dealer that had only been in business at their location for about a year and was operating out of a mobile office attached next to the main GM dealership on the same lot. I gave them a check, received an order number and had the first dealer destroy my check that they had. I was now first in line at this second dealer but two allocation cycles have gone by without a R/L being available. The sales manager called someone "higher-up" to see if something could be done. I received a call from the sales manager two days ago and was told that my R/L would be built within 2 - 3 weeks and shortly I would receive a VIN number. I asked about the status of my order and was told it is still at 1100.

Is what I have been told plausible or is it just words that are not likely to happen? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.!!! Hmm, it'll be interesting to see how folks weigh in on this one. I guess only time will tell for sure. Hope it works out as they say it will. Make yourself at home here in the meantime and keep us posted.

Get your order number from the General Manager and see if Deluke can help you out. She's a real angel that can get order status information through a connection she knows.

She posts up when she can with information like this (<--- Click on the underlined word)

Here are my feelings on this, you will only get a car if the dealer gets an allocation, allocation are based (primarily) on past volume, this is a new dealer so they have no past volume. My opinion based on my experience and reading other experiences on this forum is that you will not have a allocation in the next 2 to 3 weeks unless new dealers get some kind of special treatment. My assumption is that your dealer will be in line like all the other dealers and you will have a long wait. I ordered my Redline from a dealer group (been in business a long time) in San Antonio last July and I was 5th in line. By the time December rolled around, they had only three allocations and I was looking at the middle of this year to get my car. I snagged one in December.

I would push very hard on this dealer and use the experiences of this forum for your credibility. A lot of dealers do not know this forums exist so they feel that their customers are not educated on the process.

Been there, done that. I think the most difficult time is the time spent waiting to hear if your Sky has been built. Then the frustration comes when the time between being built and actually getting the car into the transportation system drags on.
If your waiting for the car to be built, remember to add on a few more weeks for transport. Believe me, I had my deposit/order in and it took 11 months to the day for me to pick up my Sky. Granted, I placed the order before they started to build them.
Try not to sweat too much, the wait is well worth it!
