I understand the GM will be announcing a recall for the differential for the Skys. Anybody have any reliable info about this??

My rear seal was replaced on Tuesday...not part of the recall though...Saturn tech said only a segment of '07 VINS are involved...i don't believe early builds are affected...

Thanks jayman.
Mine had almost 20k on it and I did notice that it is now leaking. Taking it it to have it repaired. I'll see if I can find out any info on the recall while I'm at the dealer.

I've already had my diff fixed with the "recall kit" - your dealer should have all the info already! ![]()

To fix the leak it takes a kit. The kit consists of a nut, a yoke, and a seal. This is per Small Dealer on the Sol side....Skip....

Taking mine in tomorrow to have it fixed even though it is not leaking or anything. I am taking pics tonight of the body panels. So they crack my panels I have proof they did it.
Around the back wheels the panels are metal how do they crack the panels? Does someone have some pics?

Got the Recall notice on both of mine
2.4L Vin #101724 was purchased in June 06 and developed leak about 6 months ago. They fixed it with no questions asked. When I got the notice, I went and asked if the previous repair took care of the problem. They said NO! The recall includes a full kit and that they would do both of my cars. So I made an appointment for each. One this Saturday and the other next Saturday. They say it takes about 3 hours.
The Redline Vin #118162 was purchased in Decemebr of 06. So it appears to cover early models as well as later editions. Not sure about the 08's.

Took my 2007 Sky (#2040) in today on the differential recall. The couple of hour job has turned into maybe manana. Although I have never found any evidence of a differential leak in my driveway, they say that ALL of the seals on my differential were leaking and they found metal bits in the fluid so they are replacing the entire differential. Only problem is they don't have any diffs in stock so have ordered one from the factory that is supposed to be in tomorrow (Friday 2/22). I'm not holding my breath.

This is a duplicate of a post I made here: Recall Notice: I got mine
I thought it was important enough that anyone involved in the Diff Recall should be aware of it. Got my 2.4 L Sky back from the differential recall fix yesterday. It didn't sound right, and one of the service guys said it had an exhaust leak. Odd that they didn't mention that during the 5 days it was in the shop. So I dropped by my private mechanic's place this afternoon and we proceeded to check it out. Here's what we found: 1. No gasket between shorty headers and CAT. The CAT was so loose that it would rattle around at the CAT/Header joint when you shook it... even when all of the nuts were pulled down as tight as possible. I know that there was a copper gasket there when the headers were installed. I helped with the install. 2. One of the upper CAT studs was cross threaded. 3. One of the lower CAT studs was sheared off from over tightening. 4. The lower mounting bracket on the CAT was disconnected and the bolt missing. The dealer denies dropping the exhaust (although they did claim that no gasket is required between the headers and the CAT, which would explain why they didn't replace it in the process), a position directly contradicted by at least two other posts above (see posts #81 and #88 in the thread referenced at the start of this post). I spoke to the header vendor and they say that there is absolutely no way that the gasket would disappear unless all three studs were removed. I am never taking my Sky back to a dealer in Doral, Florida and plan on having some not so nice things to say in the customer service survey when it arrives. Freaking idiots! I got a Recall on mine also..
On Augusta 2, 2007. The service dept: Installed Rear Diff hose and vent... On Sept 13, 2007 The service dept: Replaced seal.... When I called Saturn customer service, to inquire about the recall, and informing them about my past diff issues, they said it still needs to be replaced. Just waiting till the weather gets nicer...before I go to the service dept. But when I do that I plan on calling Saturn Customer Service to make sure that the service dept is aware of this..... also, my sky does NOT have LSD.....I ck and doubled ck.......even ck the v# against all my paper work... whew! ![]() m.

Diff Leaks
![]() well here we go again! car was purchased in june 06 so it's one of the early builds. It has been to the dealer service dept no less than 4 times for a leaky diff. according to the tech my first 3 visits involved a leaky vent that is found on the top of the diff. This last visit was in response to the recall on replacement of the diff seals. You would think that after nearly two years they would have the problem solved. But Nooooooo, IT STILL LEAKS. I am now in contact with Saturn customer assistance. I'm susposed to hear from them by tomorrow, we'll see. My position is going to be-----something serious needs to be done to fix this problem, possibly a new rear end. I'm tired of spending my time dealing with this problem, They get one more shot at this, then I'm going to contact a Lemon Law Attorney. Speaking of the lemon law (calif) anyone out there have any experience with this law? |

Got my recall work done today and had the oil changed. She's all out of hibernation from the winter. Time to clean her up and get her back on the road! AND time to do some performance upgrades....

Advice needed: I got my letter and scheduled an appointment for this Saturday. Now however, they are predicting snow. Gotta love MN and "global warming". Anyways, I rescheduled to next Saturday, the 19th. However after reading some posts am a little nervous. I am planning on going to Nationals and leave a few days after that. Do you think it's better to get it done and go? Or get it done after I come back from the almost 4000 mile trek. I have not seen any leakage as of yet and I got mine November 2006.
