Rim Offset opinions - PLEASE CHIME IN
Ok, I ordered my Foose Nitrous rims. I was told that they fit my car. Now when I get them the offset is a more negative offset (meaning that the mounting point is closer to the rims center). The offset of the factory chrome is as far positive as possible (meaning the mounting point is very close to the face of the rim)
This causes the Foose wheels to "Stick out" more that the factory set-up. See my pics. From the side of the car you cannot tell. Only from the extreme front view or back view. Looks Beefier but I am not sure how I like it. I need thoughts and knowledge on the plus's or minus's of this type of set-up. And opinions of the look. Thanks! |

Can you post some more pictures? I was wanting to see how the 18" Foose Nitrous look. I think I like the look of them sticking out a little bit more. I can't comment on the performance change from that effect though. Only thing I might do is get some 3M clear bra film and apply it underneath the door to help with the possible stray rock. It looks like the wheel sticks out a little past the splash guards.
Does the driver's side stick out different than the passenger's side, or is it just the angle that the pics are taken from? What offset are the Foose rims?

I have only put one rim on to see the fit. Once I get them on I will take a bunch of pictures. Here I took one pic of the factory and one pic of the foose rim so you can compare the offset. What you are seeing is the difference between the factory offset and the Foose offset! |

Another thing to consider is the tire does not have much of a tread on the part that sticks out. This is good because it is less likely to pick up and throw something.
Also, as far as the front is concerned, even the factory tires as you make the slightest turn stick out way past the wheel well anyway. So thinking about this further, the tire sticking past the wheel well probably increases the chance of a side chip by about 15% or so and I can offset that problem with the clear protective film. Decisions......Decisions. Also, 3 of the rims I received have some inperfections from handling. I am probably going to get new ones. I am waiting to see if it is ok with the rim manufacturer if I can put these on for now and swap them out once the new ones come in. |

Does your box or paperwork state what offset they are? Are there other offset options on that particular rim? Personally I think I like how they stick out just a little bit.
Did you order from MHT?

That rim in an 18x8.5 5x110 is a 34mm offset. If the body roll during a turn brings the hood or rear fender in contact with the wheel damage can occur and handling compromised. IMO this detracts from the look, could damage the car and put you in danger. Since this is a heavy wheel and more for styling and not sport driving you may be ok. The 20" has a better offset for these cars and has great style and look. Good Luck with your decision. HTH

It seems that I read somewhere a long time ago that too much offset can put more strain on wheel bearing. Maybe someone that knows a lot more than I do can chime in a tell you if this is right or not.
