Road Trip...!

I leave in the morning for a long weekend. Taking the Sky from Dallas up to Southern Illinois to go to a Pinball Tournament(wish me luck), and visit with some cousins.

It should be a good ride (about 600 miles each way) and the weather looks like it will be nice for top-down cruising.

So, I'll not be posting for the next 3-4 days.

Woo hoo! Enjoy the ride- I can't believe it's only 900 miles from Dallas to Illinois. I once took a Greyhound from Kalamazoo to San Antonio: 36 hours of continuous he11 each way, including getting pulled over by the police twice.

Good luck in the tourney, too.

Actually, I quoted it wrong, it's 9 hours, not 900 miles.

(really a little over 600 miles)

But it will be a fun trip anyway.

Dress in layers, this time of year in Southern Illinois, you'll be using the heater at night and mornings and switching over to the airconditioner during the day. That is if you keep your top down. Have a great time!

I'm back.

Had a great run both ways. Weather was perfect on the way up, but I finally had to put the top up in the afternoon as I was getting sunburnt.

On the way back down had a few short bursts of rain, so had to have the top up most of the way.

I only saw 1 other Sky (also red), and only a few Sols.

Got lots of compliments and tons of "mouth open stares".

Where are the pics, and how did you do in the tourney?

Didn't bring the camera, so no pics. Sorry.

I ended up 7th in the tourney (which is about normal for me, I can never seem to quite make it into the top tier).

I missed the cut to the top 6 in a tie-breaker, by 500 points (which in pinball is essentially nothing)!

But I had a great time, saw some old pinball friends, made some new ones, and visited with some cousins that I hadn't seen in years.

Herrin, Illinois is the "poster-child" for typical small mid-western town and has that perfect charm. My Grandparents grew up there, my mother was born there, and I spent many a summer visiting.

As a kid in 1975, I taught myself to play pinball at the bus-station there for 10 cents a game and have been playing ever since. Going back there 32 years later to play pinball seems like poetic justice or something.

GByrnes : I doubt that I'll be making it to expo, just a bit too far for me, though I've been wanting to go for years. I've got 3 machines here and I'd have more if I had more room (they don't have basements here in Dallas).

Funny... I am in Dallas right now at the Hyatt Reunion for a show.

I'll be back in Michigan this weekend for some end of season driving.

My pin collection: Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness, Simpsons Pinball Party, Family Guy, Star Trek:TNG, Funhouse, Blackout, Olympic Hockey (1972), Star Pool (1974), Dealer's Choice (1974), Aztec (1976), Defender (Pinball and Video)

What do you have?

I've got a Whitewater, Eight Ball Deluxe, and a Mousin' Around. I also have a Galaxian video.

You say that you are here in Dallas for a show?
I'm assuming it is not a pinball show...
