Rub Marks on Convertible Top?

I've read all the horrifying past posts with the rub mark problems. Has this been fixed with the 2008's? Does anybody know? I've only had my car since 11/30/08 but since then I have used the microfiber towel trick to go on top of the top to keep it from rubbing on the bumpers. I've only had my top down twice cause it's been cold in So. Cal. I read elsewhere on an older post that one member just ripped out his bumpers and said it wasn't a problem. The top didn't seem to make any noise bouncing in the trunk etc.? Answers anyone?

As long as the rubber pads are in place you won't have a problem.

I thought the rubber pads are what caused this problem? Or did the earlier models have something different?

Speaking from my experience, and what I have read, the problem occurs when the rubber pad comes off of the plastic pedestal.

In my case the only problem was glue getting embedded into the canvas, some people had actual wear.

If there is a problem when the rubber pad is still in place, I am not aware of it.

That is what I do. One of my pads fell off, the dealer replaced it. It fell off again, so I took the pedestal off. I still have one, but if its pad falls off, I'll probably remove it, too.

2008 Pad / heat / glue

Took delivery of my 2008 in August...was mighty hot in Tn...noticed black mark on tan top one day...and noticed the pad had fallen off. Reapplied pad to bracket (can't believe GM thought glue would hold) pressing firmly & so far it has held. Had dealer clean black spot on top - you can see a very slight rub mark where I tried cleaning.

Actually that's the problem i had. The pads fell off and i didnt know what the hell was happening that the top started to wear. One day i opened the trunk and saw the pad thingy on the floor of the trunk so i realized thats what it was. I guess the heat made them fall off.

What happens in that case? is it covered by warranty?

Its become less visible but you can still see it a little if you look closer and under certain light i guess.

What can be done to fix this?

Get the residual glue off the top and reapply a good sealer to the top like the name RAGGTOPP. and reattach the bumper caps on the top holder. That is the part that fell off that made the mark. That whole assembly will come off from the trunk lid iffen you apply enough pressure.....Skip...

Many thanks for the response.

Hmm, this was a few months ago that happened, so i wonder if the sun/rain/etc have made the glue on the top 'permanent' or if i can still get it to come off.

I'll take a look over the weekend i guess and if i see its stuck i guess ill take it to the dealer and have them clean it.
