Stephen, maybe you can shed some light on the missing brackets some of us have noticed. I'll try to find the thread later, but essentially, there is a stamped steel bracket just behind the bumper on both the passenger and driver sides of the vehicle. Apparently some cars have them and some don't. Any clue why they may not appear on some vehicles, and what exactly their function is?

Edit: here is the thread

I called GM techline today, but the gentleman I spoke to wasn't entirely sure of the answer. He understood the question and will relay it to his supervisor who will call me back by Friday.

By the way, I don't have rubbing, but I modified my car before it could have reared it head. I used to live in the desert and I got a TON of dust in my engine compartment. I used foam backed adhesive around the lip of the wells to "seal" the engine compartment against dust intrusion.

Thanks. Guess hubby just won't be able to drive it for a while until I can get it checked out.

Is this a lost effort?

Honestly, this is a whole new topic for me. Like the hydraulic/vacuum brake assists systems in RL's (Thanks, Bogie!) I'm learning something new every day it seems.

I tried to order the Carbon Flash leather seat covers for my Silver 07. Parts only shows the seat back cover in stock. If I wanted to get the bottom cushion cover I have to order the entire seat assembly. Thats $1200. If I wanted to do any other color (Black, Black and tan, or Black and red) the cushion cover is sold separately. Figure that one out...

If the paint is rubbing and they cant do a locate on the film strips, ask your service department to really spend some time on your body panel alignment. Please tell me your car is still within it's 3/36....? I spent 3 hours aligning a trunk lid for a customer once. She wanted to see a marble roll from the front of the trunk down to the tail lense without falling off to either side. Then she brought in a straight edge to make sure all the gaps were exactly 1/8 of an inch. I'm not lying.

3 hours.

Hi saf0775, I was wondering, is there a way to adjust the trunk spring preload to help keep it open? I was told there was not and have added a pair of "helper springs", but if the stock can be altered....I would like to do that as well.

The record for posts was The Beautiful Skys thread when I first started it way back and everybody was just getting them. But thank you Saturn Mechanic for all the answers that have sprouted from the questions that we all have had....We will all try to answer each of our questions as best we can...Skip...a former maniac mechanic for ten years...

Foam pieces

I was cleaning out the top storage compartment, and found 10 1” Sq. foam cubes with sticky stuff on one face and 1 trapezium shaped foam piece ¼” thick with sticky stuff on one side in the pockets used to carry away rain water.
Any thoughts on their purpose?

Thanks, Dan

In any particular pattern? They were bunched up in the bottom of the pockets.

No, space evenly across to hold pocket open.

The trapezoidal piece goes on the deck lid. Look on both sides of the inside of the lid and you will see where the loose one goes. Mine comes off every once in a while due to the heat.

I saw another Sky with the film strips at one of our Gulf Coast Sky meets. My dealer said there was a service bulletin on it. They didn't repaint under the hood, but they did put the film on it so that it would not rub anymore and start rusting.
