That might be a cool feature for the 09's. Vue's, Aura's, and Outlook's all have the remote start option...why not the Sky?

Are you aware of any actual hardware that needs to be installed to get that option on a Vue etc..? It still seems to me like it would all be programming in the car's computer if the ignition switch isn't connected to the starter already (is it?).

The ignition tells the computer to start the car, but they have to have the proper set-up to over ride the built in security system. It could feasibly work if someone from GM wanted it to.

The system on the Vue and Outlook use the transmitter to send a signal to the BCM (to disable the passlock) which inturn sends a signal to the ignition control module circuit in the ECM to start the car. You have to lock the doors (via the FOB) before you press the auto-start button or the car wont crank at all. Also, you can't shift the car from park WITHOUT the key in the igniton anyways...which is not in the remote start circuit.

In essence, your talking about overriding quite a few controllers just to get it to work. Then again, it's fairly straightforward if GM wanted to do it. They would simply make a programming update for the BCM, the ECM, and provide FOB's with a different frequency set. In theroy it could be an option you'd purchase at any time after you buy the car...for an extra cost mind you.

SAF can you confirm P/N 25848401 is the 2k9 bluetooth head unit please? I was told that it was, and it's up for sale on GM Parts Direct for <$300.

Okay, that's the answer i was looking for, thank you! There has been too much speculation about how all this stuff would need to be installed... but i always figured it was a code issue, and the code is either there and just needed the right transmitter (was what i was hoping), or it just isn't there.

Do you know of any way we could convince GM to provide that code update? Obviously they'd have to do some development, but if people want it, i don't see why they wouldn't do it...

Probably because they just posted a $15.5 billion loss

We haven't received any parts for our 09's in our store yet. When we get the parts they are checked into a parts system, not before. On GM parts direct it lists that part number as a radio, but my system shows "no parts available" when I put the number in. I crosschecked it with the keyword "bluetooth" and our system still comes up blank. My guess is that we will see the parts in the system at about the same time the cars roll onto the lot.

I also believe that it's not the radio your looking for. A stock radio for a Sky lists, in our system, for well over $700. GM Parts Direct must be showing you something else by mistake...like a single CD no MP3 radio for an Ion or something. Heck, the NAV radio in the Outlooks are well over $1200...so I'd have to say that a 6 disc player with MP3/XM/Bluetooth would be between $700 and $1200.

Can't Get It In Gear

SAF, I am having trouble get my sky in gear after I start it in the morning. I took it in to have them look at it ... and wouldn't you know it .... it went in grear just like it should. Got home and the next morning ... it took me about 8 tries to get the stick shift to gear. Any ideas waht would cause this?

Mine did this once but ever since I started letting it warm up properly I have had no more problems.

Are you pushing in the clutch?

Just kidding. I got nothing but hopefully made you giggle a little bit.

LOL ... Nice. Funny thing about it ... I have looked all over that darn clutch and I just can't find it.

But thanks for the suggestion!

I've heard of customers having concerns with this. It does seem to go away once the car is warmed up. Hard shifts are common with the Sky, esp. the RL's. GM hasn't come out with a totally reliable fix at this point.

I've grown used to it and really like it. I know when I hit neutral and I know when I hit gear.

We are still dealing with the rear diff leaking issues. I replaced one yesterday, and having test drove the car both before and after the repair, the harsh shift was noticably better after the seal was replaced.

It seems not everyone has had the new pinion/seal installed. Funny as it may sound this sometimes will stop the "clunk" when engaging gears.

Hmmm, maybe i'll have this looked at next time i'm in. Mine is noticeably harder to get into reverse than any other gear.

Does it feel like a clutch issue or is it more of a syncronizer/gear clash issue?

It seems to me that it is more of a synchronizer issue. It does it whether i have the clutch all the way to the floor or just out of slipping range.

A question about tie down points when flatbed towing. I'm considering buying a 16' auto hauler trailer to pull behind our motorhome.
I did not see any tie down points under the Red Line. The owner's manual does not specify how the Sky should be secured on a flat bed trailer, and I'm a bit reluctant to use only straps over the Sky's wheels.
Where do you suggest attaching chains or straps?
Thanks.
