Tie down points

When I unloaded the car in Seattle (18 hours later) I found that there was still the same ammount of slack in the chains and no scuffing to the control arms whatsoever. The trailer I was using also had the nylon "loops" for the tires, so the chains were mostly a back up anyways.

This was just for a one-time move, however. You seem to be looking for something more secure and to do it more often.
I'll be doing the same tie downs. Fairly often, hopefully. Thanks for the help, again.

I've got a question for you. I have been waiting to get my sky out of the shop for three weeks, but they are having trouble getting parts.

According to the body shop, these parts: 10386887-6R and 10386887-6L are on hold and they won't be able to get them until 10/10/2008. Could you check and see if they're avail or if the place is just yankin' my chain?

Thanks for anything you can do...

I checked the part numner. It's some kind of Charged Air Bracket, yes? Our parts system only shows there is a shipping charge associated with the part (since it comes direct from the factrory), but there are no memo's about it being on back order or being in a delayshipping status. There may be some yankin' going on, but since I don't have to physcially order the part myself, I can't say for certain weather there is any actual delay in receiving the part. Hope this helps

How's the weather down in Vegas? My sister and parents live in Pahrump and I'm comming down in a few weeks to visit.

It's beautiful out here! We're actually starting to cool off and expect to have temperatures into the low 80's next week. That probably won't last for too long as they normally will go up a least one more time into the mid to high 90's.

As for the part, I'm not sure what a charged air bracket is. According to the display I got the part number off of, it is just a mounting bracket. The body shop did say they had a heck of a time getting the right part as the part numbers seemed to be messed up.

Sky Intercooler Parts

Here is the post with the picture and part numbers. Is that the same thing you're seeing?

Oil change

Quick question...

Just got raped by my dealer for an oil change and now plan to do it myself. $138 with my own oil !! They claim there is more to an oil change on an '08 Turbo Sky than just pulling the drain plug and changing the filter out. Something about also draining the Turbo too. Is this correct? I have the tools and have filter location, just don't want to do it wrong. What is your take?

Stephen, I see where the HHRs, Cobalts and the Pontiac G5s have already had the new UUI radio with the USB port installed in them. Do we have a part number yet, a price and are these just a simple swap out with the radio already installed in the car?
Thanks, Ric

The only thing I ever do, other then draining/replacing the oil and the filter, is to reset the oil life monitoring system. Since the inception of the Sky, I have yet to see any technician do anything to a turbo's oil system.

Well, I've been transfered to yet another Saturn store. If I didn't love this job so much...well, I'd quit.

Like many others have said over and over again, Thanks for all the information that you have provided to the members here.

I just purchased a 08 sky redline for the wife about a week ago and she loves it! So im pretty new to the forums

As for being transfered to another dealership, perhaps they just want to spread your knowledge around some I know they could use some good techs here in hawaii lol.

So far I have had several issues with my sky and hopefully they will be fixed this week by the dealership lol. One is the shole rickety seat problem and the other is the brakes or vaum or whatever it is that screwy with them. Almost ran into someone and I was about 4 car lengths behind them going 30 mph and hit the brakes and felt like a solid brick, darn near didnt stop in time and came within a few inches from the guy

Well anywho, I hope you like the plave your at and make the most of it

Only regret so far with the sky is getting for the wife lol, I got the hammy me down Dale Jr Monte Carlo.

I'll certainly do that.

I'm at my 3rd Saturn dealer since I moved to Washington in June. At least I'm getting to see all the sights. All things considered, the dealer I'm with now has been SO nice to me. They seem to transfer me where a "teacher" is needed to train all the new techs. Once I get comfortable and everyone works well together I get uprooted. My current dealer says "that won't be a problem. We like having all the skill in one place", so hopefully I'll be around here for awhile.

Having said that, I miss Baltimore (well, parts of it ). They have the BEST crab....EVER!!!!

2005-2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
2006 Chevrolet HHR
2005-2006 Pontiac G6, Pursuit (Canada Only)
2006 Pontiac Solstice

Condition

Some customers may comment that the backlighting on the IPC does not illuminate in the daylight hours. They may further state that the backlighting does function at night, but not in the day time.

Cause

On these vehicles, backlighting for the IPC is not enabled unless the vehicle's lighting photocell determines that there is a nighttime ambient condition. Backlighting is not controlled through the use of the park lamp or headlamp switch. The conditions under which the photocell activates the backlighting may not satisfy each particular customer’s personal expectations, or the customer may simply prefer to have the backlighting always illuminated on the IPC.

Correction

For customers who wish to have the IPC backlighting always illuminated, a new service calibration is now available that will activate the backlighting to full intensity during daytime hours. Reprogram the BCM using SPS.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

I'll try reprogramming my Sky in the morning and see how it works out.
Did you ever reprogram the car to have the IP light on all the time? How did it work out?

It doesn't work. Like I said, the only thing I can think of is covering the sensor with black electrical tape or unplugging the sensor altogether.
