Saturn and Sky Sales numbers by State

As a result of the data that GM submitted for the Air Bag investigation, they included which state most of the 90,000+ cars were sold in. I think there are about 200 or so cars that did not have a state listed so those are not included here. Again, this is not a 100% accurate list but it is what GM reported.

NOTE: This is the short and sweet list. How many Skys and Solstices were sold per state. For a more complete breakdown based on the first 11 of the VIN which, for some years, included transmission type and special models, see the following post later on in this thread (top of page 6):
Saturn and Sky Sales numbers by State

The way it is organized is alphabetized by State. Next to the state name is the total number of Kappas that were sold in that state for all years. Each state then gets broken down into the Model Year with a number next to it of the total number of Kappas for that model year sold in that state. From there the model years are broken down into Skys and Solstices with a number of each sold for that model year in that state.

They do not break down the data any further unless I start filtering the VIN numbers. Then I may get an idea of how many Redlines/GXPs vs Base vs Coupes were sold in each state. If someone can provide the VIN designation for the coups for each model year they were offered, I may be able to break this out further. Just will take a LOT more work.

For what it is worth, I just looked it up, position 6 from the left is a "2" for the coupes and a "3" for the 2 door convertibles, at least for 2009 and 2010 models.

This is where to get VINcard info: https://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vincards/

YMMV

Dave, I think 2009 was the first year for the coupes so that would make sense. I'll check these records and see what I can find out.

Yep, coupes are in here too. And Since we have the engine codes in the VIN too, I can sort GXP from Base.

Records for approximately 91,000 cars, so there is approximately 10% of production missing by my totals, so I'd have to assume they left out Canada, Mexico and Opel GTs?

How partial are the VINs?

That sounds about right but while there are 90,938 cars in the table, there are about 200 of them without State Sold information.

However, it does look like they have Puerto Rico in there. (State PR?)

They are down to the first 11 digits. So pretty much everything but the production sequence digits.

I have the queries pulling the six different models of the car. I can throw those into Excel, add a column that will differentiate body style and trim level, and then put together another list like this but with a bit more resolution.

Neato! You can pull out engine, trans, turbo/na, and percentages. No more guessing. I'll have to seriously think about downloading these files.

Later, my friend!

Damn, I'm looking at your site and I can even pull Ruby Red and Hydro Blue special edition sales numbers (both man and auto tran) out of that number too! Wow.

Interesting to see though that in 2006 and 2007 the VIN doesn't provide transmission type and in 2008 there is no mention of the Carbon Flash SE in the VIN.

So, what the hell is a Solstice Street edition?!? Or a 2010 Sky Preferred? It is also interesting to note that there is no separation of the coupe from the vert in the 2 digit model/trans VIN but there is a body style code in the VIN. I'll look at the numbers tomorrow and see if those correspond to the coupe as I believe it should. I know there is another digit in the VIN that determines the coupe as I was able to pull them out earlier.

At least for 2009. I find it hard to believe you didn't know the wealth of info hidden in the VIN.

I found it hard to figure out the lengths they went to in 2009 with the Sky details in place 4 & 5.

The Street edition was an Inferno Orange NA Sol with a black stripe, black headlights and the Sol version of the Q9Y wheels.

I know there is another digit in the VIN that determines the coupe as I was able to pull them out earlier.
I looked at my tiny 2010 database where I have the full VINs for all 30 of the cars, and the body style code of 2 is a reliable indicator of coupes. Body style code 3 is verts.

Have fun with it.

That's just it, when the SEs came out I wasn't active with the Kappas. When people said you could tell the color by the VIN, I thought it was just with the full VIN, not a partial. LOL

Also for 2007 you can't get trans type from the VIN...never mind Special Editions...so yea I didn't know how much you could get from the later model VINs.

Looks like they went to some serious extremes in both cars with these limited editions in 2009. I may need to track down one of these Inferno Orange cars. That sounds hot!

That is where I think I keyed on to break them out. I just find it interesting that they break out SE vehicles in one section but not coupes. I'll be playing more with this tomorrow. Just looked up to your earlier post where you said this...this is how tired I am right now...totally missing the earlier posts. LOL Need sleep.

Like I said though, a lot of information here. This info alone is a great thing for this community.

Once again persistence pays off. Thanks for all your effort and hard work there Robo. Good things come to those who wait, and wait... and wait some more.

Glad to see this breakdown of the Kappa sales by state. Gives a clearer picture to the community of where, why, what about our cars. As you break down this info over the next several days ( weeks ) the separation of model types by region will pay off in the long run.

Of coarse GM is going to send everything they have. Loads of data for the casual consumer to look though and try to figure out. The more info we as a community has, the better. Thanks GM for taking time out of your busy day to help us consumers out. Now after having said that, then the safety question comes to mind, as to how many of these cars on this list, has been into a GM service facility to have a repair to it's Air bags system.

Solstice street edition. A one off? Extreme limited production model? A Sky preferred? WTH is that? These cars might be the limited collector car option, with what 90K+ Kappa's out there, how rare are these two examples?

To some this data is just great. A picture from the MFG. of the production runs, and sales by state. To others out there, just some more facts and figures for us to mull over when time permits. At least it is something, better than not having this data I guess. It will be interesting to see where this data leads us to after all is said and done.

Breakdown of the coupes vs the Verts. Auto trans and manual. Base vs RL/GXP. The limited runs of the Ruby Reds/ Hydro Blues/ Carbon Flash models SE or not? Every little bit of info helps us out. You as the owner of a Kappa, can configure your own list of your car/state/model type sold by the mfg. from this current info, and run with it.

Stungjoe, if you have the whole VIN it should tell you all that because you're talking about a very specific car. In this database, we only have the first 11 digits of the VIN (it's the digits after that which give the specific car). If you can post the first 11 digits of your VIN I can then start with a known entity and see what else I can find. For your car (since it should be a 2008) those 11 digits should contain your trans type.

Okay Joe, I'll check on that.

Also, anyone with a 2008 Redline Automatic, I need the first 11 of your VIN. I'm seeing something wonky in the reference that DaveOC provided when it comes to 2008 Kappa VIN decoding. Just need to verify.
