Just curious, Robo, but are those CY sales or model year figures? For instance lets say I bought my 2008 in 2007, so am I in the 2007 figures or the 2008 figures?

Those are Model Year sales. For example, I bought my first Sky in May of 2006 in CA yet there are zero Sky's showing sold in "2006" for CA.

Robo, according to the production spreadsheet, the first SKY was shipped into a California dealership in mid-February 2006. A friend of mine bought a SKY, manuf in March 2006 from a gal in Palm Desert, that we understood she bought new from a Palm Desert area dealer. That's if I'm on the right track in interpreting that spreadsheet. I would have thought those SKY's would have been firm orders before being shipped to the dealers.

Am I understanding your statement correctly or is it my spreadsheet interpretation?

I don't know, we may be talking about the same things.

What I meant to say was if you look at my data in this thread, under each state you see, for the Skys, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 data. This is how many of each model year was sold in those states. This isn't the year in which they were sold in that state as 2007 Skys were sold in 2006 and there is no 2006 Sky data for any State/Territory.

So your 2008 MY Sky would be included in the 2008 Sky data for your state. My 2007 and your friend's 2007...both bought in 2006, would still be listed under 2007.

There are instances of Skys being manufactured in December, 2005 which were model year 2007. See MarlboroMike for details.

The first sky I ever saw was in March 0f 2006, and it had been delivered to the customer the prior week, in Ohio. I saw my second Sky the next day, but I'm not sure when it was built, it had GM Michigan Manufacturer plates.

DaveOC, just for the record, my car (manuf 12/16/2005) was put in service January 19, 2006 (pre-delivery inspection), by a Michigan GM engineer in the PEP program, is my understanding. And without verifying my records, I seem to remember that employee wrote it was PEP. From the VIN record search, RPO; WD1 shows as a "IDENTIFICATION - PILOT VEHICLE". Some people tell me those cars were to have been destroyed, but who knows about that statement.?? Sure glad it wasn't as it is in excellent shape appearance-wise and mechanically. It is actually the red one in this forum banner. I'm proud of it.

Oh, and who ever provided the spreadsheets on all Kappa production details, that is a priceless piece of work. I'm sure a factory process, but with our access to that record is a wealth of information. Guessing a bit but maybe DaveOC and Robo were responsible. Thanks much!

I know you are, and I was thinking of you as I typed that message, I just wasn't sure where your car was in the overall scheme of things.

GM's response to the NHTSA inquiry about the PPS/airbag issue is responsible for the data being in the public domain. Robo and I and a few others may have had a bit of something to do with some data mining. I haven't done much of it, but I do have copies of the data in my system.

Long story short, my switch from Windows to Apple sometime back has been good and not so good. I was pretty accomplished with Windows EXCEL. But never learned the same stuff yet on Apple's NUMBERS.

I am in need of the link to the file; KAPPA MASTER VIN SOL and SKY.

My need is to get the file into EXCEL and I would like to do a clean download to Windows EXCEL.

And I might mention, the original file only goes through production dates from the beginning to about Sept 2007. Missing is the balance of production on to July 2009. Any idea why that last part of the data isn't in my Apple file? If that part is a separate file, it would be good to get that link too. That spreadsheet information answers a ton of questions that can come up.

I've searched for that original file posting but haven't found it. It may not even be there now. Hope someone can provide the files.

I think we pulled that data per a request from GM or the NHTSA since they did not mean to release a file that allowed a user to get the full VIN information.

The info that I have is that GM and/or NHTSA requested that the file be deleted as the full VIN information was not meant to be released to the general public.

The forum member that released that file removed it shortly after he was requested to remove it.

The VIN11 data file, as provided by GM and as released by NHTSA should be available on the NHTSA site, and is downloadable as a Microsoft Access database.

They pulled it a few days after they told us to pull it...unless they re-posted it in the last couple days.

I yield to your superior knowledge on the subject. I was not aware that they had pulled the info from the web site.

So, let me suggest it does NOT appear the file will be available. I'll get by and put the issue aside. And thanks for the explanation.

I'll post here a study I did with the data that involves a better understanding of how VIN production numbers of SOL and SKY were combined, along with some other interesting tid-bits.

February 18, 2017
From the SKY-SOL production spreadsheet beginning portion, the record shows:

1) In Kappa’s beginning, Solstice VIN numbering and SKY VIN numbering were independent of each other. Solstice production began with 6Y100001 on March 16, 2005, and SKY production began as 7Y100001 in the second week of December 2005.

2) The start of ’07 Solstice production was combined numbering:
a) start June 5, 2006 for ’07 SOLSTICE as number 7Y103375.
b) underway on June 5, 2006 for ’07 SKY was number 7Y103374.

Specifically on June 5, 2006, ’07 Solstice began production of units AND the VIN numbering of the ’07 Solstice began/joined in-sync with the ongoing ’07 SKY VIN numbering. In other words, as SKY numbering was 3374 units and the first ’07 Solstice fell right into that sequence as 3375 as ’07 Solstice units began coming off the assembly line.

3) The end of 2006 production was:
June 23, 2006 for ’06 SOLSTICE as number 6Y120186 (remembering that number is 20,186 cars).
no ’06 SKY was produced.

4) The start of 2008 production was combined numbering:
a) start May 15, 2007 for ’08 SKY as number 8Y100012.
b) start May 16, 2007 for ’08 SOLSTICE as number 8Y100011.
A strange circumstance is no units that I found received numbers 1-10.

5) The end of 2007 production was:
a) Jun 14, 2007 for ’07 SKY as number 7Y142740.
b) Jun 15, 2007 for ’07 SOLSTICE as number 7Y142868.

For 2009 and 2010 records, I must look for a second spreadsheet record as my sheet ended.
