Day 4 in the shop... dealer says they still do not have the "differential fluid additive" they need to finish the job.
I thought the additive was only needed for LSD's? They also now adding to standard rears looks like..
Heres what I have gathered from the Sol forum. (PS this was for the Cadillac owners)
Part Number - Description
19179933 - Seal Kit, Diff Drv P/Gr (CTS, STS, SRX, Solstice, SKY, GT) (Note: STS AWD & SRX AWD will also require P/N 19179936)
19179934 - Seal Kit, Diff Drv P/Gr (STS-V, CTS-V)
19179936 - Seal Kit, Frt Diff Drv P/Gr (STS AWD, SRX AWD) (Note: STS AWD & SRX AWD will also require P/N 19179933)
89021677 - Lubricant, Gr Synthetic, SAE 75W-90
01052358 - Lubricant, Limited-Slip Differential (if needed)

Obviously I'm not getting good info from these Bozos. Guess I'll have to crawl under the car when I get it back and get a part number off the diff to know for sure what they have replaced the original with.

So did I. Never saw so much as a drop of fluid in my driveway, much less the puddle that most people have described. But I took my 07 Sky in yesterday for the Differential Recall anyway. They called back in the afternoon to tell me that the car would not be ready for pickup in the afternoon as promised because they found that ALL of the differential seals were leaking, much of the differential fluid was gone, and they found metal in the remaining fluid. A complete new differential is on the way from the factory.
So... do not assume that your differential is good just because you have not seen any fluid in your parking space. Have your dealer take a look ASAP.
I just returned from the dealer, having the differential kit installed. I've been watching like a hawk for signs of a leak from the day I got my car. The talk of a seal / vent leak have been around a long time. That was over a year ago and 8,500+ miles. They said it was leaking pretty good, sprayed around the undercarrage, and I never saw a drop on the garage floor. The service order showed Seal Kit, Lubricant, and Additive.
(with my old TR6 the joke was the oil leaks and oil spraying under the car was a type of british car "Rust Proofing")

as cynical as this sounds, when recalls go out, the dealerships see this as $$ to be made since the manufacturer will cover costs, warranty or not, problem or not. I hope this was not the case in your situation.
My turbo is at the dealer right now getting my re-call done...Ill let you all know how I make out....hope everyone gets theres checked out, because its obv. that there can be serious problems that are un noticable.

My wife brought it to my attention as she thought it was an exhaust leak smell. I could only smell it when the car was stopped or when I stopped and got out. I too did not see any leakage and only had one or two drops on the garage floor which I thought was from my other car.
Both Sky's have already been recalled, one last Saturday and one the Saturday before.
I'm suprised that they waited until February to issue the recall, as my first Sky's leakage started over a year ago and they did the vent pipe replacement and replaced the original seal. Then during this recall they replaced the seal that they had previously replaced with the recall one.
Oh well, they were really good about it and offered a free rental while it was in the shop.

Mine went into the shop today. Doing recall, oil/filter change (brought my own oil M1 15K oil) tire rotation and 3 other minor issues I had them order the parts for this visit.. I was told that I'll have IT back tomorrow, we'll see. Oh yea, I added the fact that the A/C is making some "minor" noises.. Let's see how it goes, I have my ACE tech working on it, if there is a problem, he'll find it... I also told SA about ggccg's experience..

I didn't get the LSD when I bought the Sky but after having the recall work done yesterday, the invoice includes the seal kit, lubricant and part #01052358 "Limited S". Does this mean I now have the Limited Slip Differential? It's not something I wanted, everybody had problems, I don't even know what the benefit of it is. Any advice?

That part number is for the Limited Slip Differential Additive. This is an additive that needs to be added to the diff fluid on Limited Slip Differentials only. If you have a standard diff and they put this additive in, it sounds like they screwed up. I don't know if this could cause any harm to your differential or not. I would definitely talk to the service department about this before driving the car again.
Well mine is in the shop today getting the rear fixed and some other items taken care of. The guy at the dealer must of thought I was nutty when I ask him to take a look around my car with me and verify there is no damage, and this is the way I want it back. They gave me a rental from Enterprise, a Chevy Impala. Just waiting for there call to say its done, hope refore it rains.
