Switching Antenna

Just wondering before I switch to a stubbie. Those of you with stubbies, how do they perform in deep canyons?

The stubby antennas are nice, but one piece of advice, don't have the antenna up while closing the trunk, the two I had bent becuase it got caught while closing the trunk.....oh well...as far as performance in canyons, i'm not sure...SteveSky67

I've never had a stubby that worked well at all. And they all broke within weeks...

I recommend the Opel antenna, which is MUCH shorter than the stock one. I actually pick up better signal with it than I did with the stock antenna!

I would also recommend the Opel antenna as it works as well or even better than the stock one and looks so much better.

I'm on my second stubby antenna. Like has already been mentioned, it's very easy to bend when operating the top. As for reception, it's not as good as the stock antenna, but in my experience, anywhere I lost reception with the stubby (like going thru the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel) I would've lost with the stock antenna as well.

But a shorter antenna, like the stubby, looks a LOT better than stock, and it makes it a heck of a lot easier to put the car cover on (don't have to cut a hole for the stock antenna)...

Spend most of my time on XM, however the Opel antenna seems to be the best if you want to go smaller.

Try the Opel GT antenna. I think I get better reception with it, compared to the orginal "bumpercar" antenna. Plus....the Opel antenna creates very little wind noise!!!

Might want to check out this thread:

Three Antennas - Side-by-Side

I like the B-Series stubby. Reception is okay for strong AM stations even when retracted. This is all I listen to (to catch news and sports) other than listening to XM or a CD/MP3 disk.

I like my B-Series stubby antenna... the opel one is nice too... but the b-series looks like it was made to go with the sky. it doesn't get the best reception but for the one or two radio stations i enjoy listening to its more then enough. im more concerned with the look of it then the quality. i always have my ipod touch with me on longer trips anyway.

Grant & Maria ~
Most people have major problems with stubby's in cities ...
and you guys live out in the boondocks.

I live in town and after checking out the stubby's - I went with the Opel GT antenna.

BTW - GM Parts Direct has them on sale right now.
