Thinking about a Sky

Hey everyone, I am thinking about buying a Sky Redline. My fiancee and I are going this weekend to take one for a test drive. I actually just sold my 1998 Smokin' Joe's Special Edition Honda CBR600F3, and the agreement was that I can buy a sports car in it's place. I am strongly looking at a Sky Redline, and hope that if I do choose it, I won't be dissapointed. From what I have read so far, I don't think I will. Anyway, I've been checking out many of the posts and learning about it before purchasing. I'll let you guys know how I make out this weekend, and look forward to becoming part of your extended "family".

Read up on these boards a good bit. The SKY has a lot of things that tend to drive some folks crazy. The RL high pressure injectors tic, the top will likely give you some problems, yada yada.

Nothing so far has changed my mind on buying, so I love the car, and most folks do love it. But I've seen several recent buyers post on here about problems they've experienced and those problems have been discussed at length on these boards.

As long as you know what you're getting into, that's what is important. So do the research.

We were looking at the Black Onyx. It will be my first black car, and her second. I passed up on the black when I bought my Nissan Titan, which I went with Radiant Silver, so this will be something a little different.

"STREET5927" Look with your eyes wide open

Which State do you live in? Remember, this is a limited winter car!

And if you are lazy, getting out of the car to put the top up or down will drive you

Finally, take the time to inspect the trunk. Top up is still not designed for suitcases or normal large boxes. Duffle bags work great for trips

It is my daily drive and with some thought you can pack a whole lot in that small space ... I certainly do!

Beautiful color! But you gotta bust your butt daily to keep it that way. If you don't have a garage, invest in several (yes, more than one) car covers. And make sure you have a place you can hand wash it....yourself. Invest in a good portable blower because there are several water catch points (license plate, rear brake light, badges, seams of rear lights, side mirrors, front grill, hood vents, and wheels) that must be blown free after each wash. Keep the quick detailer at the ready, along with an assortment of microfiber towels.

There is a payoff for all that hard work and constant attention. Black does indeed provide the deepest and most vibrant reflections....but only if you keep it up.

Just out of curiousity, what other cars are you looking at besides the Redline? Other convertibles, like an S2000, other "sporty" cars like an STi, EVO, or?

You mentioned that you had a Titan truck, so something like a Redline or S2000 would work, since it wouldn't be your only vehicle. For sheer grin factor, exclusivity, and numerous comments from strangers, the Sky can't be beat. Especially with the incentives they have on them now...

And to which I'll add, what are your objectives?

Sporty look?
Sporty feel?
Fit/Fisnish (interior/exterior)
Driving Style (High Rev close ratio, or more normal and flat)?

SKY has sporty look and sporty feel (especially on the corners), but the Z4 and S2000 have a better fit/finish. As for driving style, the S2000 and RX8 like to run high and tight, whereas the SKY gives a lower rev high torque midrange response.

Noooooo, do not do black. Swirl Marks, hard to see Body lines, shows everything. White or Silver is the way to go....then again I am biased!

Welcome to the forum!!

Even with all it warts and flaws, people continue to buy them in many cases some, here are on their second one.. (gluten for punishment), some have even bought a R/L with eyes wide open as far as the brake flaws, and have just adjusted to the problem. I myself bought a dark color, midnight blue and some times regret it because it is just as hard to keep clean as the black ones. My young daughter owns a G6 GT, black , which IMHO, shows dirt and flaws, swirl marks etc etc a whole lot more than my midniteblue. But I eventually got over and quit being so anal as far as keeping it clean 24/7. After all its only a friggin car...right?.. In fact I just washed mine this past Sunday after 2 months, it was so dirty it started to look white....LOL

I HAD a black Jeep. It wasn't nearly as fast as my white Sky.
