Top down & shopping...

Do you leave your top down or do you put it up every time you go in the store?

Will the alarm sound if someone comes along and unlocks and opens the doors?

Depends on the store. If it's something like a mall, the top goes up. If it's a small store at a small shopping center and it's in a good area, the top can stay down. And yes, the alarm will go off if someone tries to unlock and open the door.

My biggest fear though is some jackass throwing something inside the car or damaging the interior somehow.

Top stays down in reputable areas and for very short trips inside. High traffic stores (ie Wal-Mart), disreputable areas, and long trips inside and the top goes up.

Yes, the alarm goes off if someone reaches in and tries to unlock the door. My wife does it all the time.

I dated a psycho-chick once upon a time that would purposely try to throw her lit cigarette into people's convertibles...even when the person was driving it!

So, yes, it should always go up in my opinion. Most people won't mess with it, but its that one angry or jealous person that will damage your interior...and it only takes one time to really screw it up, like a cigarette burn.

Absolutely depends on the store, mall, or shopping center. I usually put both windows up AND make sure you hit your FOB to lock and set the alarm.. Like LC, my fear is some ding bat throwing a shake, soda or some other foreign object into the car, like a brick or concrete block-- You do take a chance with the top down, especially if you have "toys", ie, CD's, GPS, etc etc in the car not secured--

Are you still dating this bimbo? If she did that with me, she would regret it BIG TIME..I would take that cig and the whole pack of cigs for that matter and stuff it down her throat and make her eat them, after I pull over and kick her ass.. That will stop that nasty habit I bet---hahaha

If it is a quick run in a gas station or a scheduled pick up of .. like dry cleaning... it stays down.. but anywhere else... If I am going to be in there for more than 10 mins... it goes up.. SkyBaby

One thing she would do too is if she had food like chips or fries she would throw them on the hood of someones car so that the birds would bombard it.

Midniteblues, no, I don't date her anymore. Her nasty temperment wasn't reserved for only convertibles...funny thing, we dated for about a year before this side of her came out. Really bizarre.

I leave mine down on short trips inside. Or if I'm someplace where I can sit inside and watch my car. If top is down I also lock Ipod/other stuff in the glove box. Other than that top goes up.

+1

If I can't see it, top goes up, doors locked, alarm on.

Sometimes

really it epends on where i am, as others have said location and time is the key. I will atleast roll the windows up, but if i am going into a store for a couple of items, lets say less than thirty minutes spent inside of a store i will usually leave the top down.

Yup - totally depends on the location.
And I keep Saffy in my line of sight if I am going to be gone for more than 5 minutes whenever the top is down.
I also have a special steering wheel lock (The Wrap) that I put on her whenever she goes topless (different than the club cuz this one also covers & protects the airbag) - it has an alarm w/ a remote for and the thing screams if someone bumps Saffy or moves her steering wheel.

Edit addition:
And I put the windows are up AND lock the doors & glove box.

Important note for those that park topless. Don't leave any valuables in the storage inbetween the seats. Lock the glove box. Putting windows up is a good idea as it pretty much prevents anyone from reaching in and trying the glove box. And if they pop the lock and open the door the content alarm goes off.

Also, does anyone use the intermediate step of putting the top up but not latching it and leaving butresses up? Just throw it forward. Any mechancal problems with this approach (trunk stress?).

Top always goes up. It takes 30 seconds to do and it offers a sense of security while the sky is out of my sight. Besides I don't have a turbo timer so i just let the car run while i throw the top up anyway

If I leave this stuff in the car with the top down, it is locked in the trunk or the glove box. But I try to just take that stuff with me.

I don't take the SKY when shopping

Actually because I am a guy I don't shop - I buy. And most likely what I am buying isn't gonna fit. Buying can be done in 10 minutes.

-- If I am away for <1 hour top down... >1 hour top up unless I can see it.
