2008 Sky Red Line Turbo – driver’s side window on top and side radius of glass
I have read many threads on this forum and on other forums about the problem of the window glass rubbing the top when the door is opened or closed - seems to be a common problem! The recommendations I have read include lowering the window before exiting car (sometimes I forget); adjusting the stops on the top travel located in the top trunk area; or taking the door panel off and lowering the window travel in the up position. I try to remember to lower the window before exiting car and I have adjusted the stop on the top travel (was not successful). If there is a better way of resolving the problem, I and other owners would welcome the solution(s). ) I am considering removing the door panel and adjusting the window to resolve the problem. If lowering the window glass is the best way of permanently resolving this problem what is the procedure after I remove the door panel.
Some time back I had to replace the whole regulator assembly for the driver-side window.
Once I got the interior door panel off the removal/addition of the window itself was essentially loosening two bolts compressing rubber clamps at the base of the glass.
If memory serves, these rubber clamps were at least a couple inches square and one could certainly position the glass to desired height before tightening the bolts.
The only thing that had me uneasy was determining how tight was tight enough when clamping the glass back in, as I didn't want the glass to shatter from too much compression. I got to a certain point and said, "good enough".
Over the past 7 years I have taken just about every part off Punisher and documented it in the Punisher thread. I have an index of the first few years here
Just a heads up HenryR, I've removed the door panels a couple of times and adjusted/moved the glass down, and it's fine "for a while", but the problem keeps returning. Actually I need to do it once again, and thus far I cannot figure out why the issue keeps returning.... see below thread.
Got the Sky out for the first time this year, went to a show in St. Ignace. So once again, I took the door panel off and adjusted the window down. This time I even pushed the glass forward a bit, thinking that might be the "fix" to this problem re-appearing. Well, before the weekend was over, my glass was once again creeped up and started hitting the convertible top again, very frustrating! I really can't figure this out.....
There has to be something unusual going on there because in all the cars I have worked on I have never seen the adjustment change without specific action to adjust it. next time you have the door panel off take some pictures and maybe we can help diagnose the problem.
Here is a link to Solstice forum where I posted photos/questions. I've thus far only loosened the glass clamps to lower the glass, but that has proven to only be a short term solution... it eventually creeps back up. I'm getting really good at removing the door panel, lol. Overall very frustrating...
Sorry, never know when it's better to create a new thread, or revive an old one!
Anyway...my recently acquired 2008 shows very little damage to the roof fabric from the window, but the roof was incredibly difficult to latch and close. In diagnosing this, I came across a post from "DaveOC" in this thread on Solstice Forum. It's simpler than stated...just loosen the jam nut, turn the stud to adjust, and tighten the nut. It's definitely the thing to adjust for those having difficultly latching the roof. However, it made the window rubbing issue way worse. There is no "happy medium", unfortunately. Taking a deeper look, I came to the conclusion that the real issue here is the amount of tension in the cable that pulls down the sides when you latch the buttress. There's a little "mouse" that runs in a channel and if I manually push up even about 1/4" on that slide to relieve a bit of the tension, the rubbing stops. So I think my goal is either to find a way to adjust the tension on that cable if possible, or physically restrict its downward limit somehow.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
