Vin Numbers - Alter EGO

I just started a new thread in the solstice forum requesting the identity of Vin#1414 of the Solstice....I thought it would be interesting. Like finding your fraternal twin.

Mike I'm probably wrong, but from my reading I understanding was that the vin's were sequential, so that means there can be only one 1414 VIN

the sequential numbers started with R/ls and GXPs...in the beginning, they each had similiar numbers...they started combining numbers this past October/November...my understanding.

That is true about the early VINs. Mike you might want to elongeate your VIN to the last six digits considering the way I read the solstice forum posts about have differant vins that ended with your number...Skip...Mine is 101576....

I tried to post about 1:00am but the site screwed me up . The forum changes something at about that hour. Anyway I was telling you to use 6 digits because Solstice forum thought you meant any ending in your final digits like 111414 or 121414 or 131414 etc.. But when I was on the solstice forum earlier I noticed that you had posted a 101414 VIN and ah heck just disregard the whole message ...Skip...

VINs are sequential for a plant, not a car line (Corvettes being an exception since they are built only at Bowling Green and BG builds nothing but Corvettes). Certain identifiers are particular to a car but the sequence number is just that -the sequence of the car that rolls off that line for the build year. That would be for all cars built on that line.

Except when the 06 Sol and 07 Sky were being built side by side. If Mike finds his Sol mate, it would just be a slightly older car.

It was my understanding that the early Sky vins were seperate from the sols. It wasn't until sometime in the 2000? or early 3000? mark that they combined both car lines. So, for example, you would find a Sol with the vin 1584 which would be the same # as my Sky, but after the combo deal you won't find Sky and Sol #s duplicated.
