Virginia Finally Gets Drop Down Weather

Virgina finally got some decent drop down weather. I enjoyed finally washing her up a few days in a row. Those chrome wheels look so shinny and I loved driving with the top down and turn up the volume on my aftermarket stereo. Oh I am gonna love doing this for the next 6 months. VA owners/drivers where were you?

Finally broke down and bought a daily driver ('94 Taurus with the 3.0 V6, not the problem-plagued 3.8 V6), so the Sky can stay out of the elements finally. My house doesn't have a garage, so I bought one of those enclosed 10'x20' car canopy things at CostCo for $200. Seems pretty sturdy, all the sides are covered, I've got four 12" nails in each of the eight feet that support the frame, and since it's right next to the house, I think it'll stay out of harm's way. I'm also keeping it covered under the canopy as well, so that'll be an extra layer of protection from the elements.

And yes, I rolled her out of the canopy and spent some time on Friday driving around with the top down. Man, it's gonna be nice when the weather dries up around the Hampton Roads area. But boy do I wish I was back home in So Cal with this car! I'll never take that almost all year-round top down weather in So Cal for granted again!

Oh no, I'm not that anxious to drive at those temps. More power to ya though. If I drove at those temps to work(40 highway or cruise miles) I'd be frozen.

I was at a gas station getting a premo refill and the car was surrounded. They marveled at the looks. Apparently they were so awed and nervous that they ask if they could look at it closer. So I proceeded to blast them with my Hi Fi aftermarket stereo. Just to really let me know I was in the area.

My car is 1 year old (10,000 miles). and people swear that it looks brand new. I don't have a garage either, but I use a car cover and it did just fine. I thought about the canopy, but for now I am comfortable using the cover. I try at all costs to never drive it in the rain. I use my driving car for those days. There is no joy in driving with the top up except on blazing hot days.

And now it's cold again. I'm waiting anxiously for the nice weather we're supposed to have later in the week.

Mine's almost a daily driver. I've had it almost 15 months. It still looks pretty new, but I got my first door ding and hood chips in the last few months.

I was in Baltimore and near Washington DC last thursday. Got to drive my boss's BMW Z3 for about half an hour - with the top down - will have to remember the sunscreen next time, got a little bit o sun burn on my nose.

During that drive and the ride from Baltimore to Herndon, VA and back I saw something like 4 or 5 other BMW Z3 and Z4, a few Honda S2000s, and at least a dozen Miatas. Did not see a single Solstice, but did see a Sky - dark gray - in the parking lot at the diner where we had lunch, only got a glimpse of it so not sure if it was base or Red Line or what the license plate was.

The Z3 was okay - 90,000 miles and needs some work on the clutch (would not have been fun in stop and go traffic) - took the two of us, a 6 point wrench, and about 20 minutes to remove the hardtop and install the boot over the convertible top.

While it was fun to drive (and only has 5 speeds) - the suspension was very soft (which I found out by crossing some train tracks a bit fast) - and the seat felt a bit narrow for me. Though it was far better than the Dodge Avenger I had as a rental car - I still plan to buy a Sky Red Line - and still on track to have all credit cards and such paid off before I take delivery (current plan is for a 2009 model, order in late Dec 08 or early Jan 09 for deliver on or around my birthday in March 2009).

Took the Sky and the Girlfriend to OBX for the weekend. Felt great driving around at the beach with the top down. 80 degree temps and lots of sun, can't beat that! I didn't see any Skys or Sols while on the road trip.

I was on a long long on ramp to the beltway at what used to be called the mixing bowl and there was a Beemer right behind me...I still can't identify exactly which one it was from the front, but it was one of the high end sedans. I was more than happy to let the cars in front of me run on ahead, as I prefer to merge at speed (or a wee bit higher). So I was lagging back a bit and Beemer was right on my back bumper probably wondering what I was doing. The cars way ahead merged successfully, giving me a nice long empty merge lane....so I cut loose...watching Beemer just fade in the mirror.

I successfully merge into traffic, find my rightful place in the flow, and settle back. Then about ten seconds later, what do I see? Beemer come flying past like a bat out of hell.

Conclusion: Beemer drivers have very nice and fast cars, but their reflexes are a bit off.
