water inside trunk lid

Does anyone else have this problem?

after a rain- listen carefully as you open your trunk lid, open it very fast and keep your ear close.

Do you hear sloshing? if not, swing it back and forth listen for it.

I'm curious to know if I'm the only one with water in the trunk lid. It doesn't leak out, it just seems be trapped in there.

my first decklid that I had let water in around where the butress pops in. My top wasn't sitting on the lid tight and water slowly got through the gap it did eventually drain out but I a not sure where it went.

It might be getting in through the holes the drill for the spoiler installation. My RX-7 used to do that after rain and washing. I took off the spoiler and made a better seal. That is just one reason. Don't know if that is your case though, I just saw that you had a spoiler on yours. Good luck.

Water gets into the trunk lid where the AFBUTS plug in. It drains out the back end into the shelf above the License plate area. That is why when you open the lid up the shelf is wet. I thought that when I opened the lid that the water on top drained into the shelf area where the hinges are. But the water on top can not drain there , it drains over the back end . So the logical conclusion is the AFBUTS drain into the shelf area. I have no leakage into the trunk at all....Skip....

how does the water get from inside the deck lid into the shelf? My shelf is not wet and there are no drain holes or tubes from my trunklide to the drain. The only water that goes down that drain is the water that gets in around the lid (the sides) it follows a rail (between the seal and the quarter panel) towards the back and then down the drain. Thats what I thought the drain was for.

theres no way the water can get from inside the lid to the drain... the lid is sealed from the bottom. I also have no leakage to the inside of the trunk. The water is trapped inside the lid.

and if it were true that the lid allowed water to drain out somewhere... does that mean that they painted or applied some kind of sealant INSIDE the decklid? If not, allowing water to sit in the lid can not be good.

Looked at the AFBUTS and where they lock in. The hole for the buttressses goes straight to the bottom where the lid cover is, I could just get my finger under the cover and there is a channel but also a huge hole opening to the cover. The other side of the cover has a hard surface to it and it looks like the water just slips out when the lid is up. That is why when you open after a rain storm the decklid looks like it just drained all the water onto the black shielf....Now there are some plugs for the spoiler screws and what looks like drain plugs . They are the 1/2 inch across black plugs....Skip....

I just checked mine also--

I shined a light down the buttress holes and I can see the liner. there is nothing to stop the water from soaking the liner.

I peeled back my liner from the bottom of the lid and it looks like the lid is mostly solid but it does have holes in various places probably part of the manufacturing process.

as far as the rubber plugs - I have a bunch of 1.5 inch plugs and a couple of very small maybe 1/4 inch plugs. I removed the plugs and they do indeed look like drain holes. They line right up with the drain. I guess one just needs to know to pull some of the plugs once in awhile and drain the water.
