Weird Electrical Problems On My Brand New Redline

Only 350 miles on the car. Last week, started her up, went for a drive, on the way home, airbag malfunction comes on in the information window, lights dim, air conditioner doesn't work and dash lights very dim. Take it the to the Saturn dealer who were very nice, ran diagnostics, not sure what was going on, tightened up the fuse box assuming loose connection, things started working. Drove it home, no problems. Went on a business trip for a week and kept the car garaged. Decided to take it out tonight for a ride, everything was ok for about 10 miles and bingo, same problem arises, airbag light on, no air conditioning, dim internal lights, all this now with 400 miles on the car. Now back to the dealer in the morning to see if they can figure it out. Assuming a few minor kinks but frustrating as all heck as I love this car but hesitate to drive it with the airbag potentially not working.

Anyone experience this. I'll let you know what happens.

I have experienced a few weird and unexplained electrical issues myself but they have not recurred. For example, radio changing channels, turn signal suddenly turning on, sudden dimming lights in the instrument panel, etc. Perhaps its not related, but shortly thereafter, my a/c started acting up...it's in the shop for that now.

I always blame them on Lucifer. So, is it you Lucifer?

Problem was fixed. The dealership replaced the "wiring harness" and so far no more electrical problems. Dealership was terrific and asked that I let them know if anything at all crops up as they want to ensure it is fixed to my satisfaction.

I have a rather strange electrical problem on mine also. I installed an aftermarket amp and sometimes the amp will be playing fine one second, then suddenly it starts cutting out during musical peaks. The amp was professionally installed. I took it back and they replaced the amp, inline fuse and fuse holder, and regrounded it. It's still happening. Basically it's as if the amp isn't getting enough power at times.

It can't be the amp since they already replaced that. It's not the ground or the power wire. The fact that it's only an intermittent problem leads me to believe that something in the electrical system occassionally prevents the amp from getting the power it needs. maybe something else is drawing too much power at times. I have no idea... very strange problem.

This is what I like to hear. I think most people will still feel the new car experience is good if - when they DO have a problem that
1. - The service people recognize that it IS a problem.
2. That they do what needs to be done to "make it THEIR problem," and work to solve it.
3. Follow up and make sure the problem is solved.

In most cases people will rate that as not having a problem!

Have you tried adding a cap to your system or maybe a stout battery like an Optima.

Had my RL in the shop last week with traction lights and A/C problems. Turns out it was the alternator putting out too much voltage. Problem only happened when I was accelerating. So it makes sense. Dealer replaced the alternator and everything seems fine now.

When I first got my Sky went to drive it at night and had no interior lights. Took it back and they found that the wire had been cut on a sharp edge. They fixed it and got rid of the sharp edge.

Oh

I get the power issues playing stereo occasionally and depending on the song when the car is off. While I am driving though, I don't experience electrical issues or peak sound loss or distortion. I have a 4 gauge power wire in use for 2 amps. I've never attemped to turn it all the way up. As I could not stand the loudness above 40%. There is no distortion and the system is powerful and crystal clear and no electrical issues while driving. I do know if that battery goes close to being dead it can cause the car to do those weird things you speak off. But that was only during my install that my battery got low. I am planning to get a stronger battery anyway.
