weird thing happened today..

i dropped my chevy off for service and decided to go look at a sky (plan on buying one soon)

so i walk over to the saturn dealer and take a look at a white redline they have in the showroom. ..

and i have to say. .i was pretty disappointed with the interior. very rough cheap plastic, some pieces look like they don't fit right. and it seems the interior ergonomics just dont match up too well with me.

i was sitting pretty low which i like, but gauge placement seemed a big akward, it wasn't a straight shot looking at the gauges. it also seemed like the dash was a bit high. . i know it sounds like i'm very short. but i'm 5'8".

basically the whole interior seemed like a BIG step down from the s2000 i had (was stolen)

and after all that. .i came home and the first thing i did was get on skyroadster.com and look around because for some reason.. i still want one

just thought i'd share my story, and ask if anyone has had any problems with the interior ergonomics regarding visability, driveability, etc.. and if you did have problems, did you end up getting used to them?

I have no regrets owning my Sky, but if you are unhappy with the interior and the eggonomics now I would really think about buying one because it not going to change.

You could get a custom interior. As far visibilty ergonomics you will have a problem changing that.

If you didn't fall in love with the Sky at first look, you probably shouldn't buy one. When you love something, you will overlook the faults.

If you were getting into the SKY expecting it to be like your S2000 - then that would definitely skew your opinion. Vehicles, like people all have thier own individual particulars and peculiarities.

As far as the gauges - I am 5'7" and I have no problem with them - but every vehicle's gauges are different and it can depend on what you are used to. I will say that it took me about 3 days to get comfortable with the gauge setup in my SKY.

The plastic look is something that can be changed - there are vendors here that offer leather and carbon fiber coverings. And a number of people here have taken advantage of these options. Example: right now - JPM is offering leather visor covers at a discount.

Regarding the other ergonomics - it took me a good half-hour fooling with the seat to find just the right spot. But I suggest that you go back and take a test drive with a salesman. It might help you make the decision. Stop the car and adjust the seat around if you are not comfortable - just explain to the salesman what you are doing. In my case - I took it out for a 10plus-mile test drive while the salesman sat back & enjoyed the ride.

It took me a minute or two to find the power seat height adjuster. Fits me like OJ's gloves...

i think the main problem was that i didnt sit there adjusting the seat enough.

there's a height adjustment? is that on all models or something optional?

It's on all of them now, the early ones didn't have it, and I leave mine fully down anyway...

My 2.4 does not have seat height adjustment but I manage with a pillow. I am only 5' 1".

Gauges? GAUGES!? We don't need no stinkin gauges. Even the designers thought so. Just put the top down on a bright sunny day, and the gauges literally go away. Kinda makes sense. Top down. Beautiful day. Why the hell are you looking at the gauges?

The speedometer, tach, and gas gauge rotate with the steering column; setting the column at your best drive angle might solve the visual.

As for me, the only ergonomic I cared about was fit. And it fits great. Fit. Drive. Looks. That's your ticket to a heavenly SKY. If interior "refinement" is up there on your list, then I will have to agree with several other posters. This may not be the car for you. When you fall in love with a SKY, it's like "Wow....I LOVE this car....I gotta have this car...I love the way it looks...the way it drives...the way it feels". You might be vaguely aware of the imperfect aspects, but they never get close to breaching that feeling of fit, drive, looks. If some does breach the feeling, then that's when you have to take a step back and reconsider what you really want.

If you are going to compare it to your old S2000, maybe a test drive will help with your decision. I understand your preference with ergonomic considerations but a driving comparison might help break the deadlock. It will be different than the S2K for sure (not saying better) but knowing the difference in where the power curve is and how it handles in the turns is bound to give you much more info. Find a dealer who'll let you drive one and see what you think and good luck. Wouldn't you hate to drive one after deciding not to buy it and finding out you LOVE how it performs? Again, best of luck!

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I always wonder about people saying they have a problem with the quality of the plastic in the Sky and other GM models. Is the plastic in the imports somehow better? My wife has a Civic, and the plastic in her car is still plastic. Doesn't seem to be any better grade of plastic to me. Maybe I'm old fashioned or something, but plastic is plastic.

You want a top notch interior? Buy a Rolls or a Bentley. Anything shy of that is pretty much guaranteed to have a fair bit of plastic in it.

You want a fun sports car? The Sky's the limit.

P.S. I'm 5' 9", 170 lbs., fits me like a glove. Just need to adjust the seat and the steering column to your taste.

And I still like to raise the seat up a little. I even made some raisers for the pas side. It gives you way more leg room.

I think that the fit and finish is not any better than my wifes 05 f150 super crew lariet and that truck is or was 10g more, the sky has a very nice interior finish now some of the placement of things does need some work but you get used to it and most times its irrelevant because the tops down and your enjoying the ride to much to care. I would have a problem if it were a daily driver though for sure so if its your daily then you need to think about whether its going to fit in your life.

Interiors by Igloo®

However, GM is on a new mission to improve the interiors...New Malibu.

They might upgrade the Solstice/Sky, but only time will tell...maybe the 2012 models...

I agree. I feel in love with the car from the first time I saw it and have never looked back.
