Never heard a bad thing about the Shelby while driving it. Probably due to (2) things....1. It's too loud for me to hear them whining 2. It's too fast for most people on the road.

Don't let others ruin your day. Some people are just plain rude.

Hmmm $59,100.00 for the Cayman, $30,000.00 for the Sky RL. You can use the difference to get therapy to overcome the lack of confidence you seem to think the prosche would have given you and still have some $$ left over. Just enjoy it and don't worry about what others think. Did you buy it for you or them

coming from a truck forum after 6 years with a bunch of smartass, jealous people you bet im gonna hear all kinds of crap about my car. it doesnt bother me though. the reactions and looks i get are quite opposite when im actually driving it. the most common question i seem to get from everyone is "what kind of car is that?" and almost crap there pants when i tell them its a saturn.

Ninety eight per cent of reaction has been positive ('wow, what is that!?!) wherever i go, stopping me at traffic lights, etc. Only one real negative incident where a jeep full of 'angry young men' who cut me off jumped out and spat on the car--not worth my time. I agree with RedHeaded Redline, it's not your trinkets which earn you respect--as much as i LOVE this car, i would give it (or any $100,000 sportscar) up in a heartbeat to have my son back.

Last week while away on vacation I was sitting at a traffic light and just happened to look up in time to see a man in a Benz get the attention of the person in the car with him and point at my Sky. His expression was WOW. It was a very nice moment for me. It's a whole lotta "bang for the buck" imo.

PearlSky08: 'get that little piece of sh!t' off the road.

That was probably somebody who reads or was told by a friend who reads Consumer Report that it's a little POS.

I can't say that I've had any negative reactions myself. Hardly a day goes by that somebody doesn't roll down the window and ask "what kind of a car is it? A Saturn?" One guy reacted with "No way!" Or the kids yell as I go by "Love your car, Mister". Or walk all around the car while I'm filling up "How do you like it?" Love it. "What kind of gas mileage do you get?" As high as 32 and they are impressed. They end up with "Beautiful little car"

Come to think of it, I can't recollect anybody driving a Toyota or Honda complimenting or even showing interest. Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that? Of course, there are people with an eye for beauty and just can't help themselves speaking out, and there others who just don't.

Being taken for a rich guy can cause resentment, I agree. When visiting my dealer, one guy walks in, he was obviously a family man interested in a family car, but gives the Sky in the showroom a thorough check-out, as he walk past me I asked him "do you want to buy one?" He says " what's that, about 80k?" at that point I let a salesman take over. I do believe that many people get that impression.

So true. No doubt. Side by side with the cream of the crop, our little SKY looks the part. I believe because of this filthy rich association we find ourselves the target of that small percentage of people who loath those who can afford such luxuries.

If the SKY were $5K more, I would have either had to settle for the NA, or gave up altogether. The $30K price tag was just within my capabilities at this point in my life. When I hear folks agonizing over the SKY versus something $5K or $10K higher, it's like "Geez, I didn't have that problem". Not so much because I love the SKY, but simply because EVERYTHING beyond $30K was beyond my financial capabilities.

That said, it does feel a bit weird driving down the road in an $80K car, knowing I barely scrapped it together at $30K.

Even in SoCal, this car always turns heads, almost as much as all the artificial body parts. People stop us in parking lots, stores, traffic lights...sometimes I feel guilty that it's only a $30k car! Well, not really . Hope there's a 2010.

30k was a significant factor for me alright, although that was the most I have ever spent on a car, let's face it, you have to juggle your priorities. Now, I have seen plenty of roadsters but none of them would make me consider buying one, especially for the price of some of them - until Sky came along. If it hadn't been for the Sky (or Solstice), I would not be driving an impractical but gorgeous roadster today.

I agree. The Sky is definitely within reach of most americans. 30k these days is required for adequately equipped minivans, hondas, toyotas, vw's. But, most young families with kids proves impractical to own a sky obviously unless they already have a family car. The car is statisically catered to under 30s and over 45s, but don't quote me on this .

Now that must be hard to do!! Stay away from SUV's cause they are freakin everywhere!! It is like the sun goes down at night and they multiply. I will park my sky far away and it never fails I will come out to the parking lot and can't see my car because two gynormous SUV's have swallowed it up. But to answer the question at hand, NO I have never had any negative replies only the question "Is that a Saturn"??

Well, it caused a huge blow out at our mothers day dinner this past Sunday. I haven't picked the car up yet, just put a deposit on a black/black Redline. I had the brochure on one of the tables and the mother-in-law picked it up and asked what it was for. Oh-boy. She started raving that I needed something with back seats so I could fit the two kids in. We kindly let her know that the mini-van out in the driveway is paid for and has plenty of room. We explained that this car is for me to drive the long back roads into the city for work, all I need to take with me is my laptop. She then started to say I was going to get car jacked in the city because of the way it looks. LMAO! Her final try was to say I should get a Honda Accord like hers, so we let her know that it would cost about the same for a loaded Accord (I get GM suppliers discount on the Sky, but nothing on the Hondas). I told her I wanted to support the auto workers in the area (we are close to the plant that builds them, I was born and grew up in Newark, and I have had family work there.) by buying something built locally. Her mom kept digging so my wife finally let her have it, so then she went out and got in her Accord and left for about 45 minutes and then came back. Not a word about it since. I plan on picking the car up next week, but worried about the family drama.

I make good money and my job is moving to offices in the city (close to the Boxwood plant) so I need something more economical and easier to park than the Silverado, but fun enough to keep me happy, must be a manual and the convertable is a plus. I think the Sky fits the bill quite nicely. My wife loves it too, plus my 8 year old son keeps asking when we are bringing it home. I can't wait.

I had no idea the Mecca thing was going on when I put the deposit down last Friday. The dealership mentioned there was a gathering at the plant and they sent some cars over. (Saturn of Newark) I'll have to try to make the next outing. I started researching the cars that night and found this site with all the information on it.

I received my first and best comment on the day I bought my Sky. Wifey and I were 'toodlin' around town that night with the top down and ZZ Top loud, when a custom built chopper pulled up next to us at a lig
