Now that's truly an LOL. Saturn builds a roadster to beef the Saturn image, but it's so far out in left field that even with the badging and "in your face" owner exclamation, no one can believe it. It's hard to get your new image noticed when no one associates your new image with you.

I found out about the SKY simply because I found myself behind one a few months ago at a time when I was collecting "sports cars" in my head...with the idea to buy one in about four years (Vette, 350Z, and a few others). Saturn NEVER crossed my mind. As I looked at the SKY in front, I thought to myself, "Wow, nice car". So I had to get up on it to see the make. It looked like the Saturn emblem...but that can't be, I thought. But sure enough, it was a Saturn. When I checked on line and saw the lines up close, the SKY went to the top of my list. When I checked prices, my buy threshold dropped to a year. When I sat in one on the lot, equipped almost exactly as I wanted one, the buy decision dropped to two days. Don't need it. Can't afford it. Not practical. Don't care.

A group of older gentlemen were sitting together passing the time away in a MickeyD's in Elmira New York when my wife and I stopped in on our way to Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake for our anniversary back in May. After visiting Watkins Glen we did an overnight at Glenora Winery and Inn http://www.glenora.com/ (highly recommended) and some wine tasting the next day.

I knew they were talking about our Sky because they pointed at it a few times and even a couple went out to do a walk around. Finally one guy walks over to the table and says, "the guys over there elected me to come over and ask, is that one of those new Shelby Cobras or a Ferrari?

I replied neither it's the new Saturn Sky Redline, he went back to the table and said as loud as day "it's a Saturn Sky Redline, I told you it wasn't a Cobra!"

A few minutes later he comes back over and said "who makes it"?
I said Saturn and then he ask "Is that a German or Italian company?"
I said GM, he said no way, your pulling my leg, goes back over to buddies and says "it's a Chevy must be the Vette's little brother?"

My wife and I laughed about it the rest of the weekend.

They don't get out much in Elmira I guess?

Here I go:

I don't have time to list all of them, so let me list just the few that have happened inthe last few weeks.

I went to KFC the other night and had 3 people pull past my silver pearl RL and stop to stare at it for 20-30 seconds (shamelessly!). I then had a someone from the drive through almost pull into the street without looking because he had turned his head around all the way to look at my car. One man exited his vehicle and stood next to my car looking at it. Then an older woman pulled up in the parking space facing my car and sat inher car staring at my car for about 2-3min. before exiting the car with her 4yr old to get something to eat. Then a group of 3 rednecks congregated at the pass side of my car and talked about it(I would have paid to hear that conversation). The woman who stared at it from inside her car told me I had "one hot ride!" On the way home from work earlier this week, I let someone in front of me who stopped and asked me what kind of car I had, then told me it looked like something James bond would drive. I had another ask me if it had a V-8, but would I told him the 0-60 was in the same range his eyes grew large like saucers. Another guy that was campaigning for somone, cameover tome while I was stopped at a light and asked me if this was a sky, and I explained RL. He said he liked the sky better then the solstice and then said " you did good brother, you did good." This is just within a week. This car gets serious attention...I love it.

Man I have to agree with you. I love the attention, but after a while it can put you over the edge... One old story of mine is getting gas and one women asks, What kind of car is this? A Sky, I reply. Who makes it? Saturn! Yes, but what dealership has it? Saturn! But, who really makes this? Sigh...Pontiac. Oh, OK thankyou...

It has been mistaken for a soltice, vette, and a viper. I have walked up behind many people openly checking it out.

It is fun and the Corvette folks are not offended.

I have a black '96 Impala SS with the plates XXL ZR1. Of course Corvette never made a 4 door . . . but I needed a family car at the time; aka, armchair hot rod. It has gotten from Corvette owners too.

Most people didn't know that Saturn made a sports car.
A couple of times I was asked if it was a Crossfire.
One guy thought it was a new model of Porsche.
And after seeing the Mallett badging, a guy wanted to know what a "Malay" was.

I had a guy insist that mine was a Solstice after I told him it was a Saturn. Some people must like living in their own alternate reality. The scariest thing is driving down the interstate and having someone blow their horn when you get alongside... makes you think that there is some type of impending doom for a second. I had an older couple do this to me once and after looking around for a deer in the roadway or whatever i look over to see them both giving me the thumbs up.

how about this:

I went to visit my Uncle after Christmas and when I got there my cousin was there with her husband and two sons. Their youngest, who is about 4 or 5, is really into matchbox cars and can tell the difference between matchbox and hot wheel just by looking at them. So after he was done showing me his little cars I took him, along with my Uncle, out to see my car and asked him "Jonathan, Matchbox or Hot Wheels?

He said Hot wheels!

My 87 year old step-dad, explained to one of his neighbors, after they assumed that he won the lotto, He says" Oh no, man I could not afford to pay $80,000.00 for a car" He had never asked me what I paid for the SKY.

I usually tell people who look clueless it is a "Lamborgotti Fasterossa"
I had one of my 5th grade students ask me if it was the car from "Transformers". -J

what has you SKY been confused for?

a couple of weeks ago, I was inside a store at a strip mall looking out their window and saw this man walking around my SKY taking pictures with his cell phone camera. One of his kids was with him...kinda piqued my senses...had to stay put and make sure pictures was all they were taking! I went out there and he asked if it was a HYBRID...a hybrid what?
I sort of chuckled and told him it was a Saturn SKY. He got this look
and just said 'Oh..that's a beautiful car!' I agreed with him and he finally left. I'm not too comfortable with people loitering around my car, especially when i find handprints on the windows but I guess it's par for the course with these babies...
