When I let out the clutch.

In another sense, I wouldn't go beyond 6k miles.

The owners manual says every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.

Maintenance I & Maintenance II

In perfect sync with the oil change, about every 6000 miles.

Every time I change the oil, about every 2500-3000 miles...

Had a run-in with the local dealer several months ago over this though. I brought the car in for a lube, oil, and filter change, and also wanted them to rotate the tires. When I picked up the car, the service consultant told me they didn't rotate the tires because it wasn't due. I got a little PO'd at her, and told her that I didn't care whether it was due or not, I wanted them rotated, and was willing to pay for it. I told her it's my habit of rotating the tires with every oil change, and I didn't care what the factory said was the interval. If I'm the customer, and I want them rotated, and I'm willing to pay for it, then it's not an option on their part.

So I left in a bad mood, and she knew they blew it. But, they made things right later, and said if I brought the car back they'd rotate the tires free of charge. So Saturn is still on my short list of great car companies, and so far so good...

I'm not meaning this to be rude in the least bit, but out of my own curiosity. Why do some people (this happened with the vette too) insist on changing their oil so often? Even the manufacturer of the vehicle recommends TWICE that amount of miles before a change. Many engineers even say that this can cause issues with the seals seating improperly because the oil barely has a chance to break in. You can even send oil into Blackstone lab and they'll tell you how many more miles it has to go (usually their reports say Mobil 1 Synthetic on a vette is good for about 7000-8000 miles.)

I'm not saying you should stop, I'm just curious why you (and many others) continue to when technology has progressed?

I have the tires rotated at every oil change, which averages 6500 miles.

5,000 here +/- "whenever". Also depends on wear from play.

I think that would be when you buy the new ones, if not sooner.

If I'm using dino-oil, then every 2500-3000 miles. If it's the synthetic or semi-synthetic stuff, then double that...

Correct, the 2.4s come with mineral oil.

Chemical analysis of my oil after two changes at approximately 6500 miles each showed no measurable engine wear and that the oil was still is usable condition. The DIC indicated 20% oil life at the time. Using mineral oil.

I do mine once a month on both cars when I wash and wax the inside of the wheels. Its so much easier than trying to do it on the car.

Also my DIC is telling me to change my oil at 8200 miles.

generally good synthetic oil will go 7 - 15 thousand miles depending on driving habits and conditions so it does not surprise me that GM is telling me to change it at 8200
