Who Feels the Sky will be worth something down the road?

I myself feel like a 2007 Sky Redline in 20 years or so will be worth money. Much like having a 67 Camaro or the first model year of the corvette. I plan on keeping mine under cover in a garage in all the bad weather and leaving the car in ORIGINAL CONDITION!! So I love all you modification people. It makes my car worth Lots more down the road. At my estimation, out of 3000 Redlines being made, 1000-1500 will be driven into the ground (lots of mileage) or into another car and totalled. About 1000 will be butchered, either right away or when the are old enough to be affordable to the younger crowd, with lamborgini doors and other horrible design jobs. That leaves me with a car (in 20 years) that will be about 1 in 500 originals with low mileage left in the country.
MMMM...... could be worth something??!!

SideNote: Chip Foose NEVER uses Lamborgini doors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum. If you have attended cars shows, you have noted that unless a car is rare it takes about 35 years before the price skyrockets. Unless you are young and intend to keep the Sky in seclusion, I say drive the car and enjoy it.

I agree 100%

The pure joy you get from driving this car far outweighs the potential ROI you will get.

I would rather be happy as hell through my late 20's and 30's than to have an extra $50,000 in my 60's. What is that money going to do for me when I am 60? It will buy a lot of Viagra, but if I drive my car now I get action and don't need the blue pills.

Just my 2 cents...and lambo doors look wicked!

You may be right about the Sky being worth more than comparable roadsters down the road, if it were the redline and remained absolutely pristine factory. Cars of limited production with ageless classic looks like the Sky will always be sought after. Clean low milage cars always command a premium, I believe the BMW Z3 is such a car. Particularly the "M". Some of them bring more $ than the newer model Z4's already. However no car will make you money as well as the stock market. Put $30,000 in some good stocks and compare their value against a pristine $30,000 RL Sky in twenty years from now. My advise is drive it and enjoy it and don't count on a bonanza from a garage queen down the road.

I bought mine to be enjoyed, not preserved. That said, I am keeping all my original factory parts. I figure I can restore it back to pristine factory configuration if the market demands that, or sell the parts to somebody down the road doing a similar project.

In the mean time...

Gee, I sure hope it doesn't rain while my car is sitting in the lot waiting to be delivered. Because then I'd have to sell it.

Close but not really true...my limited edition BMW Z8 has already gained in value and will continure to...kids will reap the consequences....BMW made the 507 in '55-'57...original cost $8K...now worth a minimum of $300,000...so some cars are really a good investment....have no idea about the Sky...buying it for pure fun...

We're comparing apples and oranges here... I think someday...sure the Sky Redline will be worth more... I can see the day in the distant future when people would seek out the ones which were built later in the year and came with the seat height adjustor/after the running too rich problem had been worked out... thankfully, that's what I've got. But in the meantime..this is my one and only means of transportation and I love it every single day.

How many Redline Skys have been made in 07? If it's a low number, and if the car hasn't been riced out or ragged out, it would be worth something later on.

The cars that become sought after, and therefore valuable, are those that are both rare and desirable. The Sky, especially the R/L may maintain its desirability, but will probably not be especially rare. It is a relatively inexpensive car in mass production. The rare ones will be the pre-doorlock, pre-seat adjuster cars, and those will be the only ones I would expect to have any chance at significant value.

And pre-door lock butchered, & pre caliper painted, and pre-cat-backed, & pre-CAT, & pre pre pre---pre-it anything LOL--OEM means just that, not touched or changed from that day YOU RECEIVED DELIVERY--That is my understanding, OR at least have to stuff to "restore it" to OEM, that also works for me--

So you're saying that the Redlines produced before the production stopage due to the turbo not functioning properly will be the more desirable ones... okay.

Woo Hoo, so reaching over to unlock the passanger door and asking me wife to sit on a pillow will be worth the effort in the long run??!!!

Got to go find that 8 track player in the garage and guess I better get the BetaMax player out from under the shed (I can use the VCR to prop up the corner instead).

Reality and no Fairy tails

Hey guys get real, Our Skys are not going to be special to anyone but a Sky Lover. The trade in value of the car already SUCKS. I bought mine on 8/29 with the thought of getting the first Silver Pearl Red line in Charleston. When the Red Line did come in the First of December the dealer I bought it from would only offer $23,000 for mine. I was . Told them to keep the Red Line and decided this would be the last car I ever purchase from them. Just to see what the market would really support I went by two local Chevy dealers to see what my Sky would fetch as a trade on a $62,000 Corvette. Just to make it a little more interesting I only looked at a new '06 model. GM has a RED TAG sale on the '06. many of these have been shipped from up north to the southern dealers. GM has given each dealer cash incentives to move the '06 Vetts. Between '06 & '07 models at all the dealers in the Charleston market there are over 50 Vetts on the lots. Only two Skys available and neither are R/L. Does not make any difference, two dealers were not willing to put more than $23.000 in the Sky with both stating there are Sky,s available through the wholesale market. Neither had any interest in having the Sky on there lot.
So, enjoy your cars for what they are and dont blow smoke up your own (self). While there have been several price increases, just wait till Saturn has plenty on the market, then you will see the sticker come down. All this said, I still LOVE my SKY. Think it is the sharpest roadster out there and will enjoy it for sometime.

Hey there was a guy who did just that, his covered carrier didn't show up at the dealership, which was in another state, so he had to drive his Sky home in the rain. He then announced his intentions to sell on this forum.

OMG, the fuss it raised.

Currently having this debate with my hubby. He told me yesterday that this isn't the kind of car that you drive every day and that we should only plan to drive it 2-3 times per week. I told him my intention when I picked it out was to drive it every day and that I want to take it on long drives, too. He said that long drives from time to time would be OK, but we should not put mileage on it on a daily basis so we can save the mileage for long rides from time to time I think he has this opinion because he restored a '67 Austin Healy Sprite convertible with dual heads and the timing had to be adjusted all the time. I just read the messages on this thread to him. Maybe he'll change his mind. He's too busy playing Texas Hold'em right now to discuss it. After reading all of the above, I am ready to drive the Sky every day. Our 19 year old daughter also informed us that when we die, she wants the car! Of course, she can't even drive it (thank goodness) because she doesn't know how to drive a standard. She'll be a beautiful passenger, though!
