Who's smarter a vette owner or a sky owner?

I'm a auto tech for over 33 years. Yesterday, I worked on a Corvette. How difficult it was getting in and out.And how easy it is to get in and out of our sky. The best part of a sky is it gets 30 miles to a gallon , compared to 15 on a Corvette at its best mileage. Since I think ,the fuel prices aren't coming back down. So,tell me who's is a smarter owner? And aren't you glad you bought a sky? ED [Go Thunda]

Sky is the better looking of the two as well....plus Vette's are all over the place...too common. But the Sky and Solstice, how often do you see one on the road? Not very. As well, I'm sure the insurance is lower. Plus, you can feel good about yourself in terms of the environment (for those that didn't switch out the motor for a V8.)

You have to go pretty far back in time to find a corvette getting only 15 mpg. With a 99 I get 22 around town and 28 on the highway. At 70 mph it is only turning at 1500 RMP in 6th gear. New Z06's with 505 hp get 20+ mpg also. Our Sky RL averages around 25 mpg. Both cars are fun to drive - I love the torque and low end hp on the Corvette. I can't believe how well the Sky takes corners and how smooth the ride is. Both are great cars by General Motors. Yes, I am glad I bought a Sky. BTW The Sky gets more attention.

I have to agree with harrower, my '71 Vette gets about 15 mpg, but my '06 (LS2, 400hp) gets 20-22 around town and upwards of 30 on the highway. The SKY (2.4, 177hp) gets 25 or 26 around town and 28 on the highway. I find both about the same getting into and out of and the '06Vette has a lot more room. Which makes sense as it is a larger car, thought it weights less than the SKY and both are 'verts.

I think you have those milages a bit reversed there. I only get about
24 MPG on my sky. I am very disappointed with the gas milage on this car. I didn't buy it for the fuel milage, but when another car has an enine well onver twice the size, twice the HP and twice the Tq and weighs a thousand pounds heavier (2004 GTO) and gets the same milage, something is wrong.

I met a guy at a car show last month, he traded in his 2.4 sky for a C6, he said he got 22mpg on his sky and get 30 in his vette.

It's silly to stand on the pedastal of wisdom extolling our smartness in two bit fuel economy after spending thousands on the epitome of practical foolishness.

For us it was more of the type of foolishness, he wanted the coupe hates the sun on his head and the power or is he compensating for something,
I love the sun and the open car so its convertible all the way, love the feel and power of the corvette but with the Sky Red Line I get the same rush and feel, guess I don't have to compensate for anything

The Sky does get more looks
But the faithful on the Corvette.
The Sunbeam Alpine gets the stares and

To each his own. A friend of mine swapped cars with me for a couple of days. He owns an 07 Vette pop top. Paddle shifters and duel mode suspension. That car was a blast to drive. So much power. But after a day the rush was over and I wanted my car back. The vette is well built and really puts the power down when your right foot gets heavy but it doesn't ride as nice, or corner as nice, as the Sky. It has rough manners. However, it's still a world class sports car. Nobody gave me a second look in that car, way to common. He said every where he went people stopped him to ask what kind of car the Sky was, how much, etc.... Even he said the Sky looked better and handled well for half the price of his Vette. I got in the low 20's for milage in the Vette with the touring mode turned on. He'll probably get about 1,000 miles less use on those tires. Seems to be large black streaks on several county roads around here.

Very profound. Well said.

That being said, sure wish I could afford a new Z06. 2008 should have 500HP.

Ok, Guys I just wanted to see how sharp you guys where.I'm Impressed, I didn't say the year.Texson you were the closes. It was a 1985 corvette I was working on. I do agree the cornering is better.A vette tried to stay with me an he couldn't.Or just gave up? You don't need 400 hp with this car, that's a scary thought. I didn't try to ruffle anyones feathers. Its all in good fun. Thanks for being good sports about it. ED [Go Thunda]

well for me the looks of the sky are better and fresher than the vette.....as far as fuel ecomony, i think because GM has it programmed to run rich, the sky(redline in my case) is a gas hog. I also find it hard not to get to the spee limit as fast as i can.........i beleive with the bsr tuner, not only do you get more boost, but i believe it leans out the fuel curve so i would assume the fuel milage gets better with that. I don't have one yet. I put my baby to sleep for the winter and I am going to get one in the spring for my 2007, hoping by then it won't be so rediculously expensive and possibly more "refined"......i already have the 1k in place just in case the price hasn't dropped by then though. :-)

Vette - SKY Comparison, Are you Off Your Meds? LOL

Sky or Vette? Both are great, but you can't compare the 2. That's just insane. Each one stands on their own merits, however I much would rather enter & exit from my Z, that's a no brainer As for gas mileage I can get 28 mpg in my Z on the highway. 25+ @ 100 in 6th.

I consider myself fortunate to own both.

I was making a funny. And a few people got what I meant. I know the difference between the Corvette and the Sky. Smarter may not have been the proper word. But it did get peoples blood pressure rising. For me the Sky is the better choice, cost verse power. I think in the future the Turbo charging and Supercharging will be the[Normal] answer for our power needs. And I could see a Corvette with a supercharged V-6 in the future. So,what do you think? Oopps, I forgot my blood pressure medication .

I really don't see a supercharged V6 'Vette in the future. with LS3, LS7, and of course the new Supercharged ZR-1 coming out in '09, the Corvette has plenty of engine choices However when they move the Kappa production to Bowling Green, you might just see some powerplant options for Kappa's Time will tell.........

I hate to burst your bubble but before we got our sky i Owned a 2003 50th Anniversary vette for a couple of months. I bought it in Michigan and drove it all the way back down here to texas to retail. i never went under 85 on the drive back and most the time was at or above one hundred on the long stretches and guess what i got 28 MPG in the Corvette. Also on top of that the corvette rode like a dream and i felt just as comftorable in the vette as i do in my Tahoes or suburbans for a long trip. Yes the sky is a wonderful car and I Love it but if you can afford a vette, why not, Except maybe for the stereotype of vette owners. But anyways the Vette gets a lot better Gas Mileage than what you posted and it has morew room for us taller people.
