Will it ever end? I don't think so...

It's been a year...well, almost a year...since I bought my Sky. Getting one of the earlier cars it was understandable all the looks it got. Heck, my 1997 F-150 was the same way as Ford had completely redesigned the body style when I bought mine and very few were on the road. However, after a couple months people stopped staring at the F-150. Not so much the Sky.

Now I get a lot of random comments and stares that I just don't post...I'd be doing so every day if I did. Yesterday however was a very interesting occurance. I had stopped by my son's pediatrician to pick up a perscription and was on my way out. I had the top down sitting in the parking lot talking to my ex about the perscription when three women with a child in tow came walking out of the office and past the front of my car. They made no attempt to cover up oohing and aahhhing over the Sky. They then began to get into their car...a Saturn Sedan parked right next to me.

When I get off the phone one of them comments. "That's a beautiful car!"

"Thank you." I reply.

"Sorry that we were staring and commenting on it while you were on the phone."

"Oh, it's okay...you get use to it somewhat after a while..." Then one of them asks the question I was waiting for. With the car having been out a while I hear it less and less and it seems to go double for Saturn owners but non-the-less here it came.

"So, what is it?"

"A Saturn." This revelation is met with giggles, squeals, and the youngest of the three women breaking fast for the back of the car.

"OMG, it's a SKY!" she stammers.

The eldest of the three women chimes in with a smile, "You bought my Sky!"

Then comes the bombardment of questions. For about 20 minutes they asked about the car, where I got it, if it was a Redline, etc. Then they realized they were keeping me from leaving because thier door was open and appologized while sending me on their way. Of course, I never tire when it comes to answering questions about the car so I told them it was no trouble at all. When I fired up the car with the magnaflow exhaust it was to a chorus of Ooooooohs. LOL

So even after a year, and knowing there are a number of us out here in So Cal these days, the Sky still is stopping people in their tracks and causing a stir. Gotta love it.

know what you mean....

ever since I added the rally stripes, all I hear is:
did Dodge make a small Viper? What is that?

Saturn????? Are you serious??? I didnt think GM was serious about design.... etc etc etc...

the mini-Viper comment is now becoming almost funny....probably hear it 50 times in less than 2 weeks.

..."Everything goes great with Caramel"

...There's a reason why the SKY won.... NEW CAR DESIGN of the YEAR...It truly is a MINI-CORVETTE-EXOTIC......A good analogy is......When do the comments STOP....for a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN..?....NOT while she's still in her PRIME !! ..Therefore we SKY owners should expect ... positive commentary for a few more years .... at least !!

It has slowed, to be sure. It is nowhere near stopping.

I still get the in-depth question session about once every other week or so. Recently, it has been more shouts of "nice car!" as I drive by with the top down. I get those several times a week.

And, of course, people walking by the car and all of a sudden doing a detour to get a complete 360... Those are countless.

Interesting. I've gotten a few looks and comments but nothing like what some of you are describing. Then again, I do live in Miami, land of the superficial and shallow where even exotics like lambos and ferraris barely turn heads anymore. The comments I've gotten though have all been very positive. What's kind of cool about it is that even though they've been out over a year now, they're still very rare. I got a new eclipse GT in 2000 or 2001 right when they changed the body style and I got a ton of looks and questions about it. It only lasted about 2 months though because within months they were all over the place. I suspect that because of the limited production, the skys will draw this kind of attention for a few years. Maybe not so much in cities like miami and LA, but in other places where cars like this aren't too common, they'll be getting a lot of attention for a long time.

On my way to work this afternoon...3 young punks riding bicycles in the street (it's spring break for schools around me), one of 'em yells out "your car SUCKS"... It took every ounce of willpower in me not to back up and run their sorry asses over.

For young pucks (middle school or high school) "your car sucks" means, damn that car is really cool.

Riverside is part of the Greater LA area...I understand what you mean. Far less comments when I'm in the OC but even there people who don't give Lambos a second look WILL stare at the Sky...I've actually seen a Lambo get ignored because of the Sky. Don't know why it is but it happens. LOL It will happen to you sooner or later.

As for the kids on the bikes...they're the type that key your car just because you have something nice and they want to ruin it. If you're car really did suck...they would never have had to try and point it out. Simply put, they wanted to get to you...and they did. You should have just hollered back "Nice Bikes" and watched how pissed off they got about not getting under your skin. LOL Sometimes nothing stings like kindness. LOL

It is amazing how much attention this car gets. Today I had one guy ask me if it was a Porsche. When I tell them it is a Saturn they can't believe it. Then I had it parked downtown and a gentleman asked if it was a Viper. I kinda laughed as this was the first Viper comment I got. Then while we both were there talking about the Sky another guy walks by and asks, "hey, is that the new Viper?" The first guy said, " see, I told you it looked like a baby Viper". So far the guesses on mine have been Porsche, Corvette, Solstice and Viper but very few have known it is a Saturn.

Still LOTS of admiration and questions around here. A month ago we were driving, stopped to shop, my wife had gone on ahead. An SUV full of people pulled around the parking lot where I had taken a spot in the very middle away from all cars.

The rear window descended. A very excited woman inquired, "What kind of car is that? It is SO cute!" I told her, "It is a Saturn Sky Red Line. Would you like to go for a ride?"

Her eyes lit up and she shouted, "YES!"

My shoulders slumped and I looked down, "My wife won't let me."

The whole car full of people erupted in laughter.

A Sky Moment!

Yes!! I've only had my RL for 2 weeks and the comments make me wonder what I've got myself into. Here are a few examples of places I can't seem to go without comments:

1. Sonic Drive-In--the manager comes out and walks around it a few times asking questions.
2. The gas station--people walk up and talk while I fill er' up.
3. A subdivision street--I was checking out a house for sale, sitting on the side of the street with the top down and people came out of their yards to talk.
4. Any stoplight

I NEVER got this many comments with my 06 Mustang GT with racing stripes.

Nearly a year into ownership here and some lady in a BMW swung around from behind to pull up next to me at a red light. Quick chat, including, ahem, <clearing throat>, and I quote "It's such a cute little thing". Yes, she meant the car.

I actually get Viper comment more than anything else. With the Corvette a close second.

I've only had one person that walked up and said "Oh, look, a SKY!!!!"

I pulled up at a church fellowship hall where a good friend of mine was having a birthday party for his seven year old daughter. I parked next to the play ground and the next thing I knew the whole playground clears out and there's thirty little kids at huddled around the car. I was about to run them off when this eight year old pops up and goes, "Oh, look, a SKY!! Is it a turbo?"

So, of course, I'm thinking, "OK, you I like."

...I would've just smiled and said "Thank you- have a nice day".......This reply most likely would've "SHOCKED THEM" .....Afterwards they probably would've told me..."Ahhh we were just kidding, it's a cool car".....
