Wind Restrictor question.

I know the name wind restrictor is self explanatory but how much wind does it actually cut down on.

Are people using these mostly as decoration or is it really worth having to reduce some of the wind.

I am not looking for a sales pitch either, please only respond with valid answers. I would really like to hear from people with longer hair.

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't cut down on the wind at all. They recommend that you roll up your windows with the windrestrictor to reduce airflow...but guess what, rolling up the windows without the windrestrictor reduces the exact same amount of air flow. And I've tested it at low and high speeds.

However, it does make a nice decoration...especially if you get the laser etched. Those are really cool.

But, if you're only looking to reduce air flow, then save your money and just roll up your windows.

I guess we need our forum ladies to respond to this, since many more of them than us males have long hair. I think that it is true with just windows up, wind gets cut back as stated above, however, ADD a windrestritor PLUS windows up cuts back slightly more than w/o. We'll see if V2 cuts more than V1-- Of course in my case, I have a dragon etched into, and with that thing wings and thangs, definitely cut air back-- I HIGHLY recommend one--

It dosen't do a thing to cut down the wind in my car. However, I have noticed that some of the windrestrictors have taller arches than others. Mine dosen't have the tall arch (kappashere). I wonder if that can make a difference?

I have the version2 widrestrictor, drove my car 1 month before I bought it.

While I don't have long hair the windrestrictor does reduce the wind blowing on the back of your head. Some things to concider are, how fast is the wind blowing and from what direction. If the wind is blowing from the side as your driving your still going to get the cross wind.

I do beleive it decrease the wind hitting the back of your head, but if your expecting it to make a dramatic differance... your out of luck.

Long haired people will still need to tie there hair back!

95% for the looks.
5% for blocking wind.

I got mine mostly for the looks (version 1 illuminated with a custom logo). It does cut down on the airflow coming back into the cockpit between the seatbacks. It does not eliminate it by any means, but it helps. My wife and daughter both noticed it made a decent difference.

I suspect those with a higher arch (like the Kappasphere) might provide a little more cut down on the wind. That being said, I love the looks of my Windrestrictor (as far as how it mounts to the car) and Stephen and Rebecca will take great care of you.

I got the v1 for looks and got quite used to it being in all the time. At that point, I didn't think it did much.

I decided to get a v2 and took the v1 out while I waited for it to come in. During that time, I couldn't believe how much wind was coming in from behind me- my shirt was really smacking my upper back while driving top & windows down at 80 mph. It was way more than I was used to.

The v2 came in, and again doesn't seem like it's doing too much, but I know it definitely is. They seem to be just effective enough to keep the wind from being ridiculous IMHO.

Doesn't help with the wind one bit but they look cool, especially the multicolored illuminated ones. I like mine but probably gonna take it off for the winter as the top will not be down as much.

Don't really notice any difference in wind flow. But, in "coolness" wow! These cars are really awesome when you add a custom restrictor. The illumination really catches attention. We love ours! The company has awesome service and a great product. It was the 2nd addition to our sky. The first . . . vinyl brake light decal. Be creative, add that personal touch to your car. You won't be sorry!

Not A Lot of difference.

I got one of the higher arched type, and to me it does not seem to help at all with the windows down. there does seem to be a little help when the windows are up though.. I didn't buy mine to attract attention or look "COOL" the car does enough of that by it's self. and I feel that they actually detract from the lines of the car.. Sorry but that is how I feel... The bottom line is, Save your money for something that will really be of use...

Whats a little wind anyway. It is a roadster, and if wind bothers you then you better go get another type car.. one with a permanent roof...

I got the one I bought because my Girlfriend said the wind was messing her hair too much...even with it, she still has to put her hair up....

Yes, it really does

My hubby got one for his car and now my hair does not beat the stuffin out of me when we go cruisin! I love it, get one, do not walk, run. And you can get one that lights up and has your football team on it (don't ask me how I know, I can't believe I still ride around with him in that car, it is a zooming billboard for Oklahoma University!)

On the freeway, nothing but putting the top will help you. Only at low speeds, I would say 35 or less, it makes a little difference, (just stops gusts of wind from whipping your hair forward). Windows up and low speeds, as above, better but not completely wind free. Only the top up solves the wind problem, but then, as others have stated, why get a convertable roadster if you going to have the top up all the time? Just my two cents here.

I am not complaining about the wind, I love having the top down and with living here in the south now I have it down all the time. It is just a pain in the ass to have my hair all tangled everytime I drive.

Guess the only solution will be to shave my head.

A) Tie it up
B) Get a scarf

These will greatly help.

YES they do lower the wind .

My daughter & I both have long hair and it helps a lot.
We can drive down the road in town (top down) and our hair does not whip across & beat our faces.
When you get it up to freeway speed (65+)- you have to put the side windows up in order for it to help.
But I love being able to drive around town on the 35 - 55 mile per hour in town roads and not get beat up by my own hair & also be able to get where I am going without looking like I stuck my finger in a light socket!

I notice that it is mainly the women who are noticing the difference. Hmmm

There has been a lot of debate about whether they actually help. How about someone using an anemometer on identical sky's with and without a wind deflector. Pick somewhere that two interstates intersect. Drive East, West, South and North at various speeds and measure the wind at head height in the passenger seat. Plot wind vs speed, averaged in the various directions and compare with and without. We need definitive numbers. Personally, I really believe my V2 wind restrictor significantly helps. However, today there was a 25 mph north wind and I had to stop and put up the top to satisfy my wife.

Wow

Wow, talk about some feedback!

Thanks to all for your input on our product. I'll be honest, I've never driven a roadster without one of these. We've owned the SLK and now 2 skys. However, both of my sisters have driven the SKYs without one and they said that for sure, it does block wind. You will only notice it at high speeds though. 50 +. We also get alot of people saying that it helps with sound clarity of the stereo since the wind that it does block comes in right by your ears. (REAR DRAFT) Robert had some tests done and had some cool photos/drawings that he used to show people. I'll see if I can find them for you guys.

It's pretty simple though, if you look back at the windscreen at high speeds you can tell there is an extreme amount of wind that is trying to come into the cabin that is being blocked.

My wind restrictor does cut down on the wind quite a bit. My wife notices it more than I do. I wanted one because it looked too "KooL" Here, have a look.
