Windshield design question

On the bottom there is dark tinted strip across the windshield. There are two areas in that strip where cuts in the tint are made. One for the VIN and the other is a small rectangular square on the passenger side under the wiper tip. It appears to be some sort of sensor. Does anyone know what its for?

It is used during assembly to indicate where the wiper blade is supposed to be.

We put a lot of marks on glass that are used for assembly alignment purposes. Most of them are later covered by something, but some stay visible, if you are looking for them.
